Just read this on The Mirror.

This just in two fired from City hall
Victor Dragone and Someone from the Rec Center. Good Victor should have gone a long time ago. He knows his business but does not know how to talk to or with people

This is just the start.

I predict more within a short time.

The Valentine's Day (Job) Massacre begins.......just a little late.

I would look at the Building Department and Code Enforcement to merge into a new Inspectional Services Department. With one new director, of course.

There will be changes at City Services as well. Upper management.

It was Ron, the co-director who was appointed by Hanlon. He resigned due to personal reasons.

He wasn't working, I don't believe he entered the building. He was picking up some personal items from a friend...........

Walter Rice yesterday............... What a shame. He was very well liked, worked hard, and did a great job.

The questions are:

What was Carlo thinking?

Who is going to replace him?

There are a lot of posts flying around the Mirror today (a lot of crap too) so I can not confirm anything. Can anyone confirm that Joe Hickey will replace Walter Rice?

This was also posted on the Mirror today as well. I thought it belonged here as well.

I have worked with Walter Rice for the Commonwealth of Mass as a veteran employment specialist and he was always the veteran representative to go to for questions that couldn't be answered and was a friend to all veterans and there families. It would be nice for the elected officials to state why Walter was let go for the other veteran that replaced him. I am glad my town government in Leicester, MA doesn't operate like this. Everyone in town should attend the next town meeting and make your voices heard and turn this injustice over. The veteran community lost a great American today.

I don't know the man or his doings at city hall but I do think that if the new Mayor got rid of him he has either someone just as good or better.

As much as I think Joe Hickey is a nice person, would this be considered "lobbying" for a position? What are the reasons to replace Walter Rice with Joe Hickey? I'm not too keen on this move and there are legalities against this also. I hope the Mayor consulted with his legal team on this. From what I am hearing, there are a lot of people that are not happy with this move.

Appointed personnel serve at the behest of the appointing authority, which, in this case, is the Mayor.

Mayor DeMaria is within his pervue to dismiss any department head or non union person who works for the city.

These are political positions, that is the only reason to replace someone. People tend to forget about that. Qualifications mean less than political support to the new administration.

Unpleasant to many but true nonetheless.

Walter Rice is and always will be a great guy and advocate for veterans.

Thanks HC. The Mayor’s decision is what it is but my personal opinion is he was not thinking of the best interest of the program or the people currently in it. I like the Mayor but I think he made a mistake on this one. People make mistakes we are only human but this will reflect on him. The increase in Veterans Services has gone up dramatically in two years. The reasons are because of our time of war and Walter Rice. Walter is a huge advocate for veterans and has done an excellent job with that office and getting state reimbursements for the city and this is what he gets for it?

I agree Tails, Walter is the right guy for the job. All of the vets know him and respect him.

Unfortunately Walter was on the wrong side of the fence last November. So was Keverian.

Politics as usual in Everett.

There is a eloquent post from Walter Rice on the Mirror that I hope everyone gets a chance to read. The man is a class act. I believe he chose to post it on the mirror since their support for him over his dismissal has frankly been stronger than what we have shown here. As a part of this post, he also clears up some of the rumors about his dismissal that have been posted over there as well. Since Mr. Rice has been a visitor to this board and chose not to make this post here as well, I thought that it best for me not to take it upon myself to re-post it here (but he chose to do so, it would be gladly welcomed).
