Anyone else tired of all the calls about parking? Since the blizzard forecast last week, we must have received close to two dozen calls! And, to add insult to injury, we've received the same call more than once on the same line.

I realize parking is very difficult in this city but are all these calls really necessary? Can't they cover it with one or two? Do we really need multiple calls in the same day? What on earth are all those call costing?

For the amount of time that is used on those calls they could have had the entire city cleaned up properly....like it should have been the first time around. Not in the middle of the night to give everyone the overtime. Most people are away during the day either at work or school, that's a better time to do it...and also NOT when the snow is frozen, at night! I'm also sick of all the excuses in the newspapers for the poor job that was done. It irks me when the mayor cant be a big boy and admit things were not done properly and has to point fingers. Instead of pointing fingers he needs to look in the mirror!

Yes, the amount of the robo calls has been beyond ridiculous.

I'm sure that the City Council "enjoyed" having a finger pointed at them in all the local papers this week.

But, I'll give the mayor at least one point in that Op-ed. The sidewalk plow piece has been stuck in committee for way too long. And its's not the only one. I believe that, by their own rules, the city council can only leave a piece in committee for so long before they are required to report back on it. And they probably exceded that on many pieces before they started up committee meetings again last week. Pieces shouldn't be sent to committee if they will be unable, for whatever reasons, to act on them in a timely manner.

But in reading that op-ed, I had the feeling that we were being sent something of a mixed message. On one hand, it felt like they were still trying to convince that the acquistion of the sidewalk plows will solve all the snow removal problems; but we also need a shoveling ordinance.

Let's face it. Unless you live on a main drag, you'll probably never see a sidewalk plow in your neighborhood; just be honest about that. With all the pieces of equipment that are needed to keep the streets clean during major storms, how much of the sidewalks could be kept clean with just two or three sidewalk plows? And where would the additional manpower come from to run them anyways?

And yes, the city probably does need a shoveling ordinance. But it will never happen as long as long as the elderly (and I'm getting there myself) are a powerful voting faction in the city. And just what did the Mayor do about a snow removal ordinance in all of his years as a city legislator? Different story now though as he's the one responsible for addressing the problem.

I can remember when I was a kid the city did have sidewalk plows and they did the entire city. I had an uncle that worked for the DPW and he would be out sidewalk plowing. I don't think we will ever see that again. I can't see a shoveling ordinance ever passing. There are people who aren't able to shovel and cannot afford to pay someone to do it for them.

I believe the city dropped the ball on this last storm. Most everyone obeyed the parking ban and yet the side streets were a disgrace. It has nothing to do with the amount of snow we received. It has everything to do with the plow drivers not knowing what they were doing. The administration should have instructed these plowers to do more than a swath down the middle of the streets. It's a week since the storm and the two way streets are still a nightmare.

When the robocall hits my voicemail, the first part of it gets truncated.
