This should stand on it's own.

I watched the dedication to the Veterans Wall Memorial and I can’t believe how political and a flop it was.

The wall itself is beautiful and the stories read about the veterans were too.

The bottom line is the three former VSO’s who worked many hours on this project (that were in the audience) were not even acknowledged. That was a disgrace, but, the City Council gets acknowledged?? You think the fact that the three of them not marching in the parade was a sign? They had to scratch the 2nd division of the parade that was supposed to be led by veterans because there simply was not enough there. That should speak volumes on how this administration feels about the veterans.

I’m still shocked that the Mayor thanked everyone from...The High School Building commission, the CC, the architects, FFF and the School Committee. Everyone EXCEPT the former VSO’s that were involved with this project.

As for the dedication, thank goodness for Officer Dan. I can see that it was not well attended, not well advertised and seemed to me they were going through the motions, rather than honoring the names on the wall....ALTHOUGH, we have articles in the Boston Globe for “Mayor holds Town Meeting” and “Mayor Holds Street Repair Meeting” and of course…last but not least…FLOWER POWER makes it in the Globe.

just wondering

Do you ever stop looking for ways to spin something into an issue caused by the current administration? The parade was run by the School Department...not City Hall. As far as not well advertised goes.....once again, you are wrong. The school department had full page advertisements in atleast 2 local papers for weeks leading up to the event. Give it a rest Tails!

Tails,

I didn't see the ceremony. Are you saying that VSO Desiderio, Savage and Rice attended the ceremony and they were not recognized?

No, they were not recognized in any capacity and yes, they were all there. It was very disappointing, especially since they are all veterans of Everett and were the ones responsible for the wall. Not the politicians voting for a new school.

I have finally been able to see the tape of the dedication. I thought it was pretty well done. I did notice that besides VSO's Desiderio, Savage and Rice not being recognized for their work on this project neither were Mayor's Ragucci and Hanlon recognized. These are the times when personal disagreements should be put aside for the community.

I finally saw the entire show. I thought that the Singing Trooper was particularly outstanding.

It is an unfortunate fact of life in this city that, at functions like this, the current crop of politicians and administrators seem to get more recognition for a project than the people that actually made it happen. For example, nothing against either one of them, but what did Sal Sachetta and Rosemary Miller have to do with this project? They got introduced and others that had more to do with the project did not.

For some reason, it is just hard for people to put their egos aside for a day. And sometimes, that works both ways. Last year, at the dedication of the new high school, David Ragucci got a mention but he wasn't there; he should have been.

I'm not pointing fingers at just the current adminstration for this; it seems to be a long standing Everett tradition. There is one comment that I'd like to make about the administration on that day though. I think that an opportunity to bury the hatchet might have been missed; instead, further ill will was likely fostered. And I'll leave it at that.

I believe Mayor Ragucci was not invited to the high school dedication.
The current mayor should have acknowledged those who helped with the wall.

There was a War Memorial Committee that all three former VSO’s were a part of. The Committee and HS Building Commission and architects, where always at the table.

The bottom line, this administration did not have anything to do with this. The three former VSO’s put in countless hours and especially Walter Rice, who also had his day job to attend to. He worked above and beyond for two years on this committee, and did all the physical work. I just feel that the veterans deserved more dignity and respect, for them to leave people out of it because of petty personal disagreements. It was not the time or place and shows true character.

This was a big event, like the Senator said, one of the best high school buildings in the state. The names on the wall deserved to be remembered with dignity. I think this event was more important than FLOWER POWER in the Boston Globe.

So, Thank you, former VSO’s Desiderio, Savage and Rice and former Mayor’s Ragucci and Hanlon for making this wall possible. You should all be proud, it is beautiful and your hard efforts did not go unnoticed.
