Officials Break Up Deadly Drug Ring
11 Deaths Attributed To 'Super' Heroin
EVERETT, Mass. -- Drug enforcement officials have busted a major heroin ring they say is responsible for 11 fatal overdoses in the Bay State.
NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that "Operation High Top" stretches from Columbia to several American cities and resulted in 78 arrests, including some in Boston.
Arrests were also made in New York, Chicago and Orlando, Fla., and Columbia, U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan said Wednesday.
Seventeen people were arrested in Massachusetts, where the ring was allegedly selling heroin in Everett and Lynn.
Some neighbors said the bust surprised them.
"I looked out all the commotion, there was a bunch of DEA and Massachusetts State Police here. I was not sure what was going on. I was getting my kids ready for school and the next thing I know is they come out with one man under arrest," said one neighbor.
Federal, local and state police were involved in the operation to take down a drug ring the government said smuggled in a "super-type" of heroin that caused more than 130 near-fatal overdose in Lynn between June 2004 and June 2005. Police say 11 people died.
Authorities seized $1.4 million in cash and 20 weapons during the investigation, Sullivan said.

hey Jane don't you know its against the law to paste this from the news website but since you did you might be in some kind of trouble since you alter the logo at the bottom from the news station. If you read the bottom of the website its says right on it. I copy for you and everyone else to see so be careful when copying or pasting from the news web sites.

Unfortunately, some ... um... locals were among those arrested in another drug case in the news. So apparently it's not only the "new" citizens of Everett that are getting into trouble. |

Staples Ave? I have a very good suspicion. It's not a very long street after all.
Avon St? I know who lives on Avon Street. Was it a daughter or am I way off track?

It was Staples, Avon and Vine Street, i hear that they left the police station at about 5am and had about 40 cars pouring out of Elm Street, apparently it was quite an operation and it involved mostly Colombians

Well, I will be picking up the Malden Evening News! Thanks for the tip. I wish our local newspapers functioned more like newspapers instead of cheerleaders. |
