I just read this on Topix and thought it was worth posting here;

"just got a call informing us that a child from my sons school, the maddy english, has been confirmed with swine flu. very concerning. they didnt give the childs name or grade. they did say the school has been "washed"., and school will remain open. how can they wash a whole school that fast? I hope the child/family gets through this ok but I'm really scared it may have spread."

Should someone let the Media know? By the time someone has it, they've been "catchy" for a few days.

Also heard it was a first grader at the Maddy English. A little boy. BUT, someone called the Board of health, and they said it was a little girl, and she was back in school.

This afternoon, according to the Mayor's Office, these are the facts regarding Swine Flu in Everett.

There has been one case of Swine Flu in Everett which was a student at the Madeline English School. The student has been treated and remained out of school for the 7 days recommended by the Mass. Dept. of Health.

That sounds to me like the student may be back in school. My personal opinion is the schools should close (at least) for one day, and just scrub them all down. Deb O'Neill sent home information on Swine Flu (which was fine) but it's just average things like "wash hands frequently" "If your not feeling well, stay out of school"

The fact remains there was a case here in Everett. This particular strain of the flu is stronger than the average flu, and should not be taken lightly. God forbid one of my children get it and they pass it on to an elderly person or someone with a preexisting condition. I just don't feel comfortable with the schools being open. I wish they closed for the long weekend and disinfected them all. Isnt someones life worth it?
