Hi everyone!!! I'm new to this blogging thing so please bear with me lol!!! I just had a question in regards to the meeting for next week and all other meetings: are they going to be televised? I'd like to go in person but realistically I will be unable to most of the time. I don’t know if this was discussed or not prior to my post.

The public meetings are supposed to be televised however, from what I’m hearing, there are at least five on the commission that want to stop televising the public meetings because the last time there was such a low turnout.

I disagree with that and the first/last meeting they had was right around the holidays….so of course you are going to have a low turnout.

The charter commission had previously deided that any public hearings that they held, where the public will have a chance to speak, are supposed to be televised. They also previously decided that regular meetings of the commission (scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month, for the next three months anyways) are not going to be televised.

I think all these meetings should be televised. I mean this commission could fundamentally change how we govern ourselves as a city. I myself am very busy, however, I do try to keep up with the politics of the city: I mainly due that through the newspapers and the meetings on TV.

I hope someone on the commission brings this up but I really don't have too much hope. I also think having that public hearing before the holidays was a waste too, and I hope someone on the commission brings that up as well. Even if they had to have it on that date, for whatever reason, I still think there should be more televised public hearings, at least in the beginning anyways.

The commission decided on their television policy at their first meeting. I doubt that it will come up again unless the public brings it up. I think it is a mistake also. Doesn't help to make the process very transparent.

By state law, the commission had to hold a public hearing with 45 days of their election. They can hold more, as many as they like. However, if there isn't the public demand for it, I doubt they'll hold many more.

General Question: does this mean that the meetings are going to be televised?????

Resolved/Lattanzi: ECTV make available state of the art audio, amplification & video
equipment in Hearing Room B. PASSED AS AMENDED, DELETING VIDEO

I found this for their Nov. 30 meeting. Sorry to keep beating this horse, I'm just confused!!!!

From what I have been told, they have an audio system (speakers, microphones and some type of amplification equipment) set up in the hearing room where they have their meetings. Part of the reason for that is that audio for the meetings is being recorded to help their clerk in the creation of meeting minutes; the same thing is done at city council committee meetings. The other reason that I've been told for this is that Schlosberg has a hearing problem; even though I'm serious about that, you can also insert your own joke here.

As that piece said, video was deleted. Again, from what I'm told, it seems like Schlosberg would really like the meetings to be televised (again, insert your own joke) but none of the others are the least bit interested in it. Because Schlosberg controls the agenda and really wants it, that's the reason why it showed up on the agenda again at their second meeting. But, it got shot down hard...again.

Tetris: Thank you for the information and yes, I most certainly inserted my own jokes haha!!!!

If anyone does go to this meeting could the person(s) give a quick synopsis of what happened on the "Big Important stuff" or if any GOOD points were raised? I'm trying to go to at least one of these but I can't make it for this upcoming meeting.

The members of the Charter Commission don't want the meetings televised but I bet the general public would appreciate it. I know I would.

I'd also like to see them televised. I'd be a lot more aware of what they're doing if I could catch a replay of their meetings. I seem not to be able to get to their meetings & I really do want to know what they're up to...........

I wonder if it would help if the residents emailed the Charter Commission asking them to rethink their decision not to televise the meetings.

Many of us are interested and cannot attend those meetings.

Try sending e-mail to everettcharter@comcast.net

From what I understand, they have the votes not to televise public meeting anymore. Perhaps if the commission hears from enough people, they will change their minds and continue to televise the public meeting. I would like to hear what residents have to say, not just the commission. Lets remember, charter review was voted in unanimously by the voters. Some of us voters work two jobs and cant make it, but are still interested and would participate, just not in person at the scheduled meetings.

I'm really tempted to vote NO on whatever the commission comes out with for a new charter, unless there is more public input. I really don’t understand the resistance to public input from those 5-6 members on the commission: No public hearings (at least until the end of March) no public comment at meetings, no televised meetings…what are we in China?!?!?! I’m shocked they have an email address!!!!!

They did realize that they were going to have to DEAL with the public right? I'd say send in the clowns like Massdee says but, at this point I'd love to have 5-6 clowns on the commission....maybe they would know what the public wants and know what the hell they're doing. Right now we have 5-6 sociopaths.

I don't think any of us a very happy with what we're seeing/hearing right now but......... Don't cut off your nose to spire your face!

These people were elected to do a job and now we all have to wait & see how well they do it. If you don't like what they come up with, then by all means, vote against it. But, to vote against it because you don't like the process they used, is just plain stupid.
