Some cities must run all new hires by their city council for approval--both of the person and the salary. That would have been a good thing to add to the new charter. I keep hearing about new hires, but never see anything from the Adm on that. If it had to go before the city council, we would all see it on TV and the Adm would not be able to just add personnel as they saw fit. |

Absolutely cozulady. The fix is in. Here's hoping this charter never passes. Scrap it and start over with an unbiased committee. Way too many hacks for my liking. |

I honestly dont remember for sure, but werent the members of the Charter Reform Commission elected by the voters? I know a couple of them, not all. The ones I know are good, decent, civic minded people. Most of the Committee and Commission members in Everett get no pay or insurance either. If youre voted in and work for free is "hacks" the appropriate description? It took an awful lot of time to get Charter reform done and on the ballot. I hope it passes. We can always change the parts we dislike or that don't work. I can't stand the thought of this ridiculous bi-cameral form government surviving. |

Everyone I speak with regrets voting for this because of what it has become. I think it's going to be a very close race for charter and I hope this vote NO on charter committee watches these polls carefully and has their own list on who they know are voting NO. |

Yes, we voted for them. The drive to go ahead with charter change came from the desire to revise our form of government. However, some of the people got elected because of name recognition (the way most people vote, unfortunately) and not on much else. I knew some that ran who had no political desires, connections, etc and only wanted to work on reform. If more had actually felt that way, we would not be here debating what we got. The 4-year term was voted down and anyone who truly wanted CHANGE would never have allowed that put in--they would have realized the effect it would have had. So, yes we voted for them and this is what we got
Also, as to removing/changing thing if it passes--ask how "easy"it will be. I think the answer you will get is NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE. |

The events and the players surrounding the charter question have become so convoluted and disgusting, it is an absolute side show. I don't want any more of it.
Don't get me wrong. I understand the charter; I know how to read. I understand the pros and the cons of the new charter. I know how I'm likely to vote on it. But, I'm not really into all of this other absurdity surrounding the issue. So you won't see any more posts from me about the charter until after the election.
I'd been seriously considering this before even watching tonight's Common Council meeting. That sealed the deal. |

I hate to be closed minded but I dont see anything possible that can stop me from voting YES on this charter change. Granted there are a few good ones that can run for the new single body but the rest. . . blech. C.C. does not stand for Common Council, it stands for Clown Carnival. |

I am as closed minded as you are but in the opposite direction. I can't vote in favor of this.
Two years ago, I voted for the Charter Reform. I feel that the group that was ultimately elected has served this community poorly, especially the Chairman. I don't like all of the City Council being voted on by the entire city. The expense alone to the candidates will be limiting the amount of people running. I am also not in favor of the four year term for mayor, any mayor.
I can't in good faith support this. |

I didn't receive mine either and I'm in a different ward than you. I didn't even know they were out. |

I heard 300 absentees have been received already. How it possible for even one of those absentees to vote on charter (either way) without the packet being mailed out? Something is not right. That is one part that the Secretary of State needs to be informed of. This city has a history with absentee ballots. |

I've been hearing of persons standing over people telling them "how to vote". I assume that a little of who to vote for was also involved. |

People here have said they're voting yes/no on the charter & they don't have the packet either so what's the difference? |

I can only speak for myself, but I have followed what has been happening with the Charter over the past two years and pretty much know the changes, and how I am going to vote. I am still going to read the material when it comes in. Not everyone follows things like some of us and might be depending on the packet to make an informed vote. I have to agree with Tails on this one. The packets should have been mailed before the absentee ballots went out. |
