All over the state, companies and city/town halls are downsizing and if you’re lucky, their hours reduced. We still dont know about local aid cuts, and how that will be implemented.
What irks me the most is the quote from Rosa DiFlorio concerning the mayor’s raise……“Councilor DiFlorio remarked that it was never a good time to do, but stated that the members were elected to make tough decisions.”
While that may be true, has she not in the past been the dauntless defender for the taxpayers and cutting the fat from the budget? She’s had no problem with these ridiculous “never before seen” salaries in the city, and that’s all okay with her because her husband gets a job? I said it before, and I’ll say it again…she CAN NOT vote on the budget. It is a conflict of interest.
What about all the spending, and borrowing? It has to stop, you can’t keep burdening the taxpayers and the businesses and she does not say a word. I don’t get it. So, you know what Rosa……make that tough decision for the TAXPAYERS and just say NO. It’s not the time, or even the year to consider it.
Then you have a quote from Sal Sachetta “Alderman Sachetta agreed that the Mayor should make more based on other City employees receiving more” Well Sal……that’s the mayor himself that implemented those salaries so look to him to reduce them.........not give HIM more, because HE gave more to his “friends”. Just look at Melissa Murphy as one example...... she went from 40 thousand to 78 thousand in 2 years. Anyone know anybody to almost double their salary like that in such a short period of time, or ever before in the city? I know I don’t.
Sarnie's suggestion was WAY out of line and now more than ever, I am totally convinced of eliminating the common council in its entirety. It simply does not work, and unfortunate that people are only there out for themselves. They should be considering ways to cut the budget, NOT adding to it for their own benefit. With the exception of a few on the common council, most do not do anything but slow down government and they get free medical care....... and now Sarnie wants more money?? What has she done to justify that? Councilors bring up issues and all she does is say “Her and Rosa brought this up before" but "Her and Rosa" never followed through”…..just like the white goods stickers. Never mind looking for recognition….. just GET IT DONE. There is NO justification for the taxpayers to pay out another CENT on the common council.
I concur with Van Campen, Marchese and Peter Napolitano’s remarks and even the mayor’s quote………“The Mayor stated that he didn’t run for the position for the money since he was fortunate to have other income.” So WHY ON EARTH would Jason MarcAS… even consider bringing this up right now? He should be bringing up ways to REDUCE the burden on the struggling taxpayers of the city and ways to reduce the budget, which should be very interesting. How's the budget director doing, haven't seen her around the hall in quite some time and I know a lot of departments are running in the red so where's her warning and request for transfers?
