I was just reading this on Topix. I know someone that lives on Valley St. and owns their home and has not received any notice.

Is this the same developer (Andrew McNerney from Somerville) that has left that property in a disgrace for years and he's going to be allowed to build units and not enough parking?? It's my opinion that this is yet another mistake and people should be outraged!

From Topix:

To all of Everett and especially Waters Ave. abutters!!

Yet again I feel that the mayor’s office is trying to pull a fast one on us. Last week I received a certified letter stating that there is a meeting to be held at city hall on March 15th and on Monday I received another letter stating again about the meeting to be held at the Keverian Room, at 7pm on the 15th. Well in yesterdays mail I received a letter stating that I was “invited” to a meeting was that is being held on Wednesday at 5pm that’s the next day. With no real notice! Now don’t most people get out of work about 5pm. And is the mayor just trying to sneak some impossible high rise (proposed 5 story) into the city with a possible addition of 500+ residences and possible 200 new students.

And don’t forget about 400 cars parked on the street because they don’t want to put parking on the lot to make way for the 500+ people. Now really if you know Everett can we possible fit 500 new residence squished on this lot with 400 cars parked on what Waters Ave. Valley St and Tremont St. This project has been unrealistic and impossible for the last 2 mayors and now the current mayor is trying to push it through. The English school (the closest school to the project) has no way room for another 200 students. Forget about parking 400+ cars on these streets parking now is difficult. I am all for development of this lot I like many have been looking at a run down, broken fence and filthy lot for years never mind the EPA has reported this site as toxic.

I would like to see something go there? But let’s be reasonable. We can not just stuff every inch of space with more people that we can not afford. Parking would be a nigh mare. The Emergency depts. already have lots of trouble now just getting by I have witness this 1st hand. In big snow storms it’s almost impossible. Mark my words if the 400+ cars are allowed Everett Mayor your signing someone’s death certificate. Never mind a school that cant handle 200+ more students.

I read in the Independent today that the variance was granted. As a concession to the neighborhood, I guess, they want to limit access to the development to be by Air Force Road only and will not offer parking stickers to residents of the development.

Is it true that there is no on site parking? If so, and they won't be given residential parking stickers, where are they going to park? I don't get it.

I'm not up on all the details of the project. I believe that there will be limited parking on site though. The article in the paper also talked about getting the state to build a footbridge over the river so that the residents and the workers at the Berkley site could walk to Wellington Station. Pretty good haul, especially in the winter, in my opinion. I think they'd be better off walking to Main Street and catching a bus. The article also talked about there being a zip car rental on-site at the Waters Street development.

Did the article say how many units are going to be built? Are they apartments or condos?

According to the legal notice published in the Advocate for the Board of Appeals hearing, they want to built a "five story, 198-unit residential building with parking provided on grade under the building."

Multi-family dwellings, per the city's zoning requirements, require 2 spaces per unit. The plan they submitted is 98 spaces short.

According to the article in today's Independent, the units would be apartments.
