No matter what the circumstances are, it's such a shame that someone had to lose their life at such a young age. I know this crime probably would have happened regardless, however....this city needs to wake up. I heard there was a murder on Hancock Street last week too. What the hell is wrong with the Chief Mazzie! By denying it and hope not many people hear about it....in essence, you put innocent people in harms way. I've given him the benefit of the doubt so many times, but he's part of the problem.

Just like Obama denies the influx of illegals, we deny there is crime in this city. It starts at Mazzie and goes down.

If you look up the definition of crime.... we have every single one on that list in this city. It was never this bad before. It needs to start somewhere, and the first thing that needs to be done is STOP THE DENIAL.

Then - we need a new Chief. There is NO denying that. He has been useless.

We need a collaboration with the police, city government and school officials and they ALL need to stop sweeping the crime wave under the rug.....and work TOGETHER.

We also need to become a zero tolerance city and make people think twice about selling their drugs or committing crime here.

When crime gets brought up at city council meetings....we cant have a mayor that takes offense and has his pets tell everyone how safe it is to walk to Walgreens at 1:00AM. That was the most absurd ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

For the police, we need community policing. We need a lot more, but that's a start.

The schools (at minimum) need to start doing random searches for drugs and weapons. There should be a guaranteed anonymity for students that will turn these drug dealers and weapon carriers in, but are afraid to do so. One example would be - students should be able to send a no questions asked text message about an incident going on.

We have a senator and state rep from Everett. What is getting done about crime in Everett? I'm so sick of hearing stupid things being sent to them from the city council e.g. - we support casino gambling - without even knowing the facts on it.

They need to stop fighting and trying to outsmart each other, and make that commitment to put criminals behind bars a priority.....and keep them there! How about supporting longer jail sentences and stop releasing people because there isn't any room in jails. That's a major problem in this city. We have 100's of half way houses. When people get out of jail, that's where they go. Alderman Van Campen tried to do something about it and was shut down. It's going to take a tragedy (which I hope NEVER happens) to one of them to finally do something.

Did the Chief's contract get renewed?

I have to agree with you Tails, the chief was talking via cell phone to his officers he should of been on scene. It's a young girl that was stabbed to death, social media is making everything come to light in all cities and towns, Chief Mazzie cannot hide the truth anymore we as citizens will find out about it later than sooner.

Our city is not safe anymore. We need a new police chief time for Carlo to grow some b@lls. His speech last night was so Matt Laidlaw, working with the new c.c and b.o.a. Well Mr Mayor try showing up for meetings instead of sending in clown number one.

With the Chief's contract up for renewal, it will be interesting to see what direction the administration goes in. While I'm not a huge fan of Mazzie's (the residency thing alone bothers me a lot), if he is replaced, let's hope that it doesn't become a "careful what you wish for" scenario.

Yes, the increase in serious crime (deaths) is of a concern to me also. And sure, the Mayor will work with the new CC and BOA, but only the ones that kiss his butt. I feel bad for the couple that will try to stand up to the Mayor and be made to look like fools by the ones he owns. Hopefully they will not back down and turn the tables on all of them.

I would love to Sgt Jedrey as Chief. He is a more of a hands on officer who cares about the city where he grew up.

Someone told me it came over the police scanner as a car bomb. I can't confirm that.

I heard (through word of mouth) that the ward 5 & 6 elected officials that attended the planning board meeting where all in favor of Dunkin's moving to Main and Locust St. Personally, I think it's a mistake, but time will tell. Most of those elected officials that attended and were in favor, will soon be out of office thanks to the new Charter, so it wont be their problem. If you do just a little research, you can clearly see there will be traffic/parking issues. At minimum, there should have been a traffic impact study. If an issue does not effect them directly, I guess they just don't care anymore. Anyone that commutes on Main St. especially durning morning/evening rush hour will only be burdened more. I also heard that Rocco's Funeral Home was in favor. They shove their cars on all the side streets without filling up their own parking lot anyway. Good luck to them all.

I agree that the spot isn't the best, however it is much more feasible than the other location an Main street, which I heard they will close.

I feel bad for the residents who live down in that area. It is already congested, this will make it worse. Is it going to have a drive-thru? Imagine what that could do to the flow of traffic on Main Street.

Yup, Eagle Bank Main Street is soon to close. That will be another empty lot. I can understand not wanting empty lots.... and to fill them with "something".....but my vision is not fast food junk and consignment shops. It makes the city look trashy. A Dunkin Donuts is not a necessity. We have so many already. And to boot.... going right smack in the middle of the Sunrise and Carole's Cafe is only going to hurt their businesses. That's a shame no one took that into consideration and they didn't just wait to see who else would have gone there. Seems like everything is such a rush.

What I really want to know is what's going in the space where DD's is now? There must be a plan. Did anyone ask that question?

I heard from a very good source that Victor Dragone will be filling the empty seat on the Common Council.
