Remembering William Newman

The city plans to recognize the late William G. Newman for his many years of service to local veterans. The Office of Veterans Services is holding a ceremony on Saturday to dedicate a new flagpole and memorial stone in Swan Street Park in his honor. Newman, who died in 2008, was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Burma, China, and India. His activities on behalf of veterans included serving as a member and post commander of Everett’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 834, and for many years running the Golden Eagles Drill Team. The public ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at Swan Street Park. - John Laidler
