There's a lot of fat in that budget that can be cut. I don't want to be repetitive, but I agree with a lot that has already been said. I also do not have all the facts and the TRUTH in front of me.

One thing I would consider is consolidating JOBS not consolidating departments and creating more jobs and hiring family and friends. Carlo really has not lived up to his infamous speech…..”Gone are the days”

The jobs I refer to are the non-union administrative jobs. There are too many employees in the mayor’s office along with a Chief of Staff and their salaries are outrageous. I do not agree with the statement, if you hire for less money, you get less quality. NO WAY, and especially not today. There are too many people in the unemployment line that would welcome that position at a lower salary and would give it 110% because they would be grateful.

If you have a COS, then you should not need so many employees. I also feel something can be done about some of the union positions. Zaniboni is one whose ass should have got the boot a LONG time ago with justification. Every time I’m in city hall, the employees are miserable. They have their heads down and are texting. They are board and have nothing to do. Then, when they see you, they act like I am bothering them. Every time I’m there, it’s money out of my pocket and keeps their paychecks coming, so someone needs to really reorganize that unfriendly atmosphere….union or not. I also feel the administration has been too week with the unions and negotiations. Since when is it what ever the unions say goes?? Who’s in charge here? If it’s the administration then they better prove it and grow a set.

How about the whole big speech about how we did not need a personnel director and Colleen Mejia was more than qualified and that was justification for making the high salary that she makes, but here comes Mr. Joy, and her salary did not go down and he makes a lot more than the prior personnel director. Any non Union City Employee that makes over 60 thousand, their salaries should be frozen for two years. I always hear talk about it, but nothing ever falls into fruition.

As for the way Carlo is running the city….If I keep borrowing against my house, the risk of foreclosure is greater. If I borrow against a retirement plan, I will have lower payments when I need it.

I know he did not have control over setting the tax rate however, there are a few Common Council members that are now saying it was all planned to take the highest percentage so that public hearing was all for not. They were going to do what they were going to do, anyway.
We are better off just paying a little extra on our tax bills in fairness to everyone. We could have met in the middle. That would have been a compromise on all parts.

Come on tails...show me the dollars. Do the math, what do your 'cuts' add up to?
How much lower will my tax bill be if your cuts are implemented?

I need the truth in front of me to decipher that task. I mean the true budget, not the one with all the fat in it.

It’s impossible to do when you are given numbers in one lump sum. In order to make cuts I would have to see a consistent set of monthly statements…department by department… line item by line item….to include salaries. I would literally look and see what gets spent on a pencil. Then, I would have every single employee write up a job description as to exactly what they do on a daily basis, and look at that and see what can get cut and consolidated. Just like when the city council cut the fat out of Hanlon’s budget, I really thought they would continue that practice. At that time all the Xerox machines were taken out, per the city council, but NOW (IMHO) we are paying far too much for them and there maintenance contracts. Once again…. without a word from the council. That’s what happens when you hire family members with jobs…so we knew that was going to happen anymore. It’s the unethical thing to do to rest of the 38 thousand people that live in Everett.
