I received your e-mail, and thank you for the information. First off, the way that Topix is run (lack of moderators .........I'm glad that *anyone* is going after them, legally. When you have a website like that, you also have a responsibilty to make sure no ones rights are being violated. I do not agree that city attorneys should be getting involved with "blogs" because if the mayor (or any one of his staff) has someone "going after them" on blogs "personally" like that, then I would proceed with legal action too. The difference is "I" would have to "hire" my own attorney to do that.

Yes, I feel it is a misuse of city funds, if that is the case. I think anyone that reads Topix is well aware of "who" on the mayors staff is getting '"attacked". That Hal and Harvey stuff sickens me, I don't even read it. Topix should be ashamed of themselves leaving those posts up for all to see... and I hope who ever is responsible for moderating it is named in the lawsuit. Bunch of idiots that post that crap and I hope they get hit with HUGE fines for slander. They deserve it. The difference here is that would never be tolerated and this site is NOT Topix. Sure, we have our opinions, and can be opinionated but that's not illegal. Abusing your powers to find out who's talking about you is. Lies, slander and posting about minors is illegal too. I've had these messages before and I can tell you that no one has ever inquired about postings on this site (as long as I've been administrator) I've had nasty e-mail sent to me, and so has Michael in the past. That does not bother me, that is a waste of anyone's time.

So to reiterate, no one has inquired about this blog to the forum company... and anonymity here is your choice. This site will always be open for people who would like to find out information, or post information. No one here has ever done anything wrong, and I've said it before, and I'll say it again....people in the public sector need to get tough skin and accept it. (I'm not referring to the slanderous crap on Topix) If you don't like it........get a job in the private sector. When it's taxpayer money, it's the taxpayer's right to know where the money is going, and how it's getting spent.

And for anyone named in a lawsuit that does not have slanderous posts, I would have the new 100K software audited that's always manned by a certain detective.

This issue seems to arise every few months. Personally, I could care less. I know some posters have been put off by this. Remember, it has never been proven and if it is going on then shame on the Administration, not the people who have opinions and information to share.

My honest opinion, it's only a scare tactic to try to make people stop posting. We all have legal rights and the First Amendment on our side.

I hope taxpayer money is not being used in any way to monitor these sites. The city needs every dime for important things in these tough economic times.

Maybe it's time to call for another audit and this time, every department.

YES, an audit on ALL departments is a MUST along with the software. It's been a number of years since we had that particular type of audit, and it's long overdue.
