How did our elected members vote? Did they try to reduce any items? Who were the holdouts for the Mayor and his budget? Must be frustrating to try to do the right thing when you know you will lose any way. |

That's because everyone rubber stamps everything. Right??? No justification in this City at all. I don't care anymore all CC and alderman have not balls to do the right thing. It's all about politics and who can stack the deck and vote the itsofatso mayors way. |

The only approved cut to the budget was 100K for the executive director of City Services/Engineering position that remained unfilled from last year's budget. Other cuts were attempted but none passed. The core members that voted against any cuts were those that you would expect.
I thought that the budget analysis offered in the Independent article was very confusing.
What I also don't get is how this budget is going to result in a tax cut. From what I can see, City Department costs went up $1.3 million when you realize that almost $500,000 in last year's costs were moved over to the enterprise fund. Fixed cost went up at least $1.1 million; that doesn't include anything in that area that was moved enterprise fund because the budget document lacks detail on that. The only offsets to those increases that I'm aware of are the $929K decrease in the city's necessary contribution to the schools and the $645K increase in the school department's chargebacks. There may be others but since the budget document does not include anything on the revunue side of the equation, it really hard to see where any decrease would come from.
I really don't understand how the city council can deliberate on a budget when they are not presented a full picture of the city's finances. |

All Carlo's hacks are going to get in because no one wants to sign nomination papers for the alderman. I'm collecting them for one alderman and one common councilor and no one wants to sign them. I've never seen anything like it. People are so tired of the rubber stamping and playing around with numbers on the budget like people are stupid. That's all I'm hearing.
One issue I have may not be "directly" involved with FY12 Budget, but what I don't understand is....every election year..right after budget hearings, we have major hires in the city. There where 9 hires in city services this week and they are all political hires. I don't want to hear "retired, unfilled" it's all BS. I am so livid BS at the alderman on Monday because yet again, they let Little Miss Sunshine get away with untruths....again.

Attend your ward meetings over the next week or two. Let your group including the Mayor know how you feel. |
