The was a death by drug overdose in the senior housing at Whittier Drive today. Victim was a known user and was frequently seen driving under the influence. Why was this person living in housing with seniors and disabled? Should have been removed months ago when drug use was reported. Might be alive if arrested and sent to rehab. Well it's too late now. Housing really needs to step up and protect its residents.

As sad as a situation this is, I am not surprised. Everyone is so concerned in doing the politically correct thing, they forget to be humane. This country needs to get back to basics and start to do the right thing, again. Personally, I am embarrassed how we now handle things. Let's forget about being PC and start doing the right thing. It's about time! |

I couldn’t agree more with both. There’s no one protecting the seniors and disabled. It baffles my mind that Codington is still in charge. When you are older or disabled you should be treated with respect and the elderly in Everett housing are not. When people are jonesing they will attack anyone they see. Those poor people cant even walk freely around their homes.
It is a sad situation and of course you hate to hear someone losing their lives, especially in such a tragic way, but it starts with legislation. Why on earth are people that receive public assistance not drug tested? Maybe if they were, they would seek the help they need and straighten out their lives because they would have the fear of losing that public assistance. I actually brought that up to a politician in the past and was told as long as children are involved, they will never stop public assistance. So instead, we feed the drugs and keep children in dangerous situations? The politicians are just worried about themselves and getting votes. Even places like Tri-Cap that offer heating and housing assistance…. they don’t even do background checks on people. You walk in, hand them a piece of paper and you get assistance. They don’t care because they figure it’s federal money (which was a huge contributor to the crash) It’s a vicious never-ending cycle.
