HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH THE PARKING LETS FACE IT THE POLCIE DO NOT ENFORCE THIS THAT IS WHY SO MANY CARS ARE BACK ON THE STREET. IF I WAS THE CHIEF OF POLICE I WOULD HIRE PART TIME PEOPLE TO ISSUE TICKETS AND SPLIT THE SHIFT. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND MANY PEOPLE WILLING TO WORK FOR SHORT MONEY. I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE LAST YEAR WE NEED ENFORCEMENT FOR THIS TO WORK.

TO HAVE PEOPLE WHO TAKE HOME COMPANY CARS AND PAY THE 100.00 FEE THAT IS CRAZY MALDEN, MEDFORD, CAMBRIDGE, DO NOT ALLOW THIS. WHETHER PEOPLE HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR STICKERS OR NOT IS NOT THE ISSUE THE ISSUE IS ENFORCEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We don’t have enough meter maids that's problem number 1. They're overwhelmed, hence why meter enforcement isn't good. Concerning the police, they don't enforce parking violations of any kind. However, in all fairness to them, the police in this city, as well as the surrounding cities, have different concerns from places like Arlington, Stoneham, and Winchester, who will slap you with a fine if you don’t use a directional. I have family in Medford, Malden, and Somerville, and they have the same complaints as we do.

Also, the only people that can tag vehicles, for any type of violation, are the police. You can’t hire civilians to do this. The only exception is if the car is parked at a meter. That’s why when I see a meter maid giving a ticket to someone on a side street, that person doesn’t have to pay the ticket. The only thing meter maids can ticket is meters. Everything else the police have to do.

Genuine, I'm afraid you have it wrong. We DO NOT have Meter Maids, we have Parking Enforcement Officers and they can tag any vehicle stopped and/or parked illegaly.

By Parking Enforcement Officers do you mean police or what I call meter maids? I did not think the meter maids fell under the title of Parking Enforcement Officers?

I have to disagree that the meter maids/ parking enforcement people are overwhelmed. Everytime I see them , which is not often, they are coming out of the Cafe Aroma, The Smoke Shop in the Square and various other places. They spend much of their time socializing. I think they are a waste of money.

Genuine ......................We do not have Meter Maids in this City!!! It doesn't matter what you THINK. You're wrong.

Sally, They may do a lot of socializing, but they still manage to write a significant number of tickets every day.

Well, justme - that wasn't exactly civil discourse, was it? Are you going for the Ann Colter award today or are you just being yourself? By the way, are you one of our "parking enforcement officers?"

Genuine - of course it matters what you think! My understanding of the enforcement powers of the meter maids is that they can tag for a number of offenses, including handicapped parking, 20 ft from the corner, etc - as long as the car is parked. They cannot ticket for moving offenses.

EverettsPride - I happen to agree with you about the socializing aspect of the meter maids/parking enforcement officers. I don't think any of them are going to get a heart attack any time soon from overwork.

Court -- I provided the correct information as pleasantly as possible and I was quite clear. therefore, in this instance, what Genuine thinks doesn't matter because what he thinks is incorrect. I'll accept the Ann Colter award, but it's just me being me..............

No, I am not a Parking Enforcement Officer and I do not work for the City. By the way, there is a male Parking Enforcement Officer who I'm sure would take offense to being called a meter maid.

Well, for your information justme let me relate a story. 4 years ago in ward 5 there was a huge problem with non-police personnel ticketing cars for every offense. I myself have recieved tickets from these non-police personnel. At a town meeting we were all told that police and only police can give tickets out for ALL parking violations. Any civilian that does what a police officer does can't, no matter what they are called.

Any non-police personnel, what I call meter maids, can only due meters. Any non-police personnel can not due what police do, no matter what you call them, because IT IS NOT in their contracts and they're not police. That's what I was told at that town meeting.

Every ticket I have gotten from a non-police personnel I have fought and won for the mere fact according to the court clerk "only police can tag for ALL violoations." Thats what I was told and he said a lot of people dont fight parking violations from non-police personnel because people think they have the power the police have.

And justme, not that I care, what's the PC term for meter maid? I dont want to offend anyone

And justme what Hanlon supporter/parking enforcement officer are you by the way?

I don't know where you go to fight your tickets, but there's no court clerk at city hall and that's the only place you can get a ticket overturned. And for the last time the Parking Enforcement Officers can legally tag any vehicle stopped or parked that is in violation of state law and/or city ordinances.

As I stated previously, I am not a city employee, and for the record straight, I wouldn't vote for Hanlon if his was the only name on the ballot!

No, city hall is not the only place to get a ticket overturned. It’s the first place you go but not the only one. If the parking clerk says no to you, you can go to court, and there the clerk on duty, 8 out of 10 times, will throw it out then and there.

Paul, I don’t know what you're talking about, Everett has town meetings. Firstly, let me say what, to me, a town meeting is. It’s when there are a group of people with a concern(s), the respective politicians and people are there, each side says its concerns, and then each responds back. I DO NOT MEAN when the alderman or council open up their meetings to the public. A few examples of when there were town hall meetings were when the Hale Park was going to be done, the tickets/parking problems in ward 5 and when they were talking about making a parking garage in ward 5, and what’s going to be done with the Devens school, just to name a few.

Genuine - Paul may be referring to "town meeting" which is a gathering of elected town meeting members in communities which have town government - like Belmont, Winchester and the like.

Hello All,

Firstly, my regards to our friend Court, hope all is well with you.

The internet is a wonderful thing. I can check on Everett from the Vatican. The Pup and I are here doing research for a new Dan Brown novel.

Easy answer to the traffic enforcement (or whatever you would like to refer to them) questions would be the city ordinance that created and empowers them to conduct their enforcement chores. All questions should be answered there.

Hope all is well.

Signing off from Vatican City,

The Pup

and

Emile Schoeffhausen

Hello there, Emile! Thank you for the good advice, as always. Best wishes to you and good luck with the new book. I was hoping that we'd hear from you regarding the bloated city budget, but you're going to miss the hearings if you're out there in Rome!

Give my regards to the pup. Come back as soon as you can.
