EVERETT - Mayor Carlo DeMaria invites all residents to an open forum to discuss the recent interest expressed by Wynn Resorts for a possible development at the former Monsanto site on Route 99, along Lower Broadway.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 11th at 6:30PM at the Connolly Center, at 90 Chelsea Street. Residents are encouraged to attend and take part in a candid conversation, in which they can express their thoughts, ideas, and impressions.
The first in a series of several public discussions, a primary goal of this meeting is to stimulate community dialogue regarding the possible redevelopment of the Lower Broadway site, and promote full community involvement as the redevelopment of Everett continues.
The Mayor intends to conduct an inclusive and open public process for any redevelopment proposal of the Lower Broadway site, building off of the public involvement and interest expressed during the Lower Broadway Master Planning process: Envisioning Everett Together. As expressed during this process, the Lower Broadway waterfront site is prime for large-scale redevelopment, and the administration is excited to continue this dialogue for this and other projects |

Fairly well attended by current Everett standards. No concrete proposal presented. Lots of people said that they had an an open mind and that they needed to hear more before they could decide. But, let's face it, even if you are in that camp, you probably already have some sort of opinion on it from the little that you do know.
Based on reaction only, I'd say the crowd seemed somewhat split on the idea. About 60-40 for, I'd guess. The against people were much more passionate though. The mayor asked for ideas for things to be included a host community agreement. Suggestions were made to include just about anything and everything.

Thanks Tetris. A 60-40 split, which way? I am one of those people who haven't made up their mind. I need to know much more info. I honestly can see the bad and the good. My problem, this is Everett and nothing seems to go as this administration says it will go. I just don't trust them. |

That's my problem exactly. I do not trust this administration to write a fair host agreement for the best interest of the entire city. When I hear things like a card dealer will be making 80 grand you know that was over dramatized. I saw the 60-40 split with 60 in favor but remember, it was not as crowded as it should have been some people that spoke in favor were very obviously prepped to do so. Also hearing the chief of police state that his department can handle this was crap. I've called the police before for loud parties after midnight on my street and they did not have a car available unless it was a "real" emergency. Maybe we can put this in Mazzie's back yard in Boxford and have people smashing in his doors when they are on a drunken stupor from the casino. Alcohol is free as long as you are gambling. |
