IF THE MAYOR IS BACK FROM HIS VACATION THERE IS SUPPOSE TO BE A MEETING TONIGHT TO SET THE TAX RATE FOR NEXT YEAR. FROM WHAT I HEAR A TWO FAMILY IS INCREASING TO $750.00 AND A SINGLE TO $325.00 I DON'T HAVE FIGURES ON THE COMMERICAL END OF IT.. BUT HERE IS A QUESTION?

HOW CAN A TAX RATE BE SET IF THERE IS NO MONEY CERTIFIED OR CHERRY STREET

I've heard that the Mayor will not be back, and they're going forward with the meeting anyway.

I don't know about the certified money or cherry sheets.

It might be an estimate. Therefore people could pay the estimated tax bill in December to take advantage of tax deduction in 2006. But, I'm no rocket scientist so if I'm wrong take it easy on me.

Is it me, or do you find it odd that the mayor is "away" during his very first tax-setting meeting?

Jane, in response to the cherry sheet question . . . the cherry sheets have been out for quite some time. According to the state website, cherry sheets figures for fiscal 2007 were released last July. So . . . to not have a tax rate set or even an estimate at this late date seems suspicious.
