Well all, just got word that the Lafayette School has gone down. We will become Chelsea School System run by Boston soon now. I think this is the second school in Everett now. Thanks Fred!

Lynda, The Pup and I are somewhat confused on the subject of your posting. What happened to the school?

I got a letter from FFF and the spin committee today telling us how the numbers they used to judge the Lafayette are not correct. They need to get control of these schools before someone else does. Our kids are being short changed by FFF and the koolaid drinking monkeys he has in his pocket. It is really pathetic.

For those of us who didn't receive a letter, would you please be specific? What exactly is wrong? |

The State Department of Education has recently identified Everett to be in need of "corrective action in subgroups." Everett is one of 121 districts statewide to be identified fro insufficient subgroup performance. Everett was identified in English language Arts and Math to not have achieved Adequate Yearly progress on the 2006 MCAS fro the following Sub-groups: Special Education, English Language Proficient, Poverty, African American, White, Hispanic and the Aggregrate in the elementary span. Poverty, Limited English Proficient, Special Education, and Hispanic students were identified at the high school. The State has explained steps that Everett will take in order to help every student become proficient in ELA and Math by the year 2014, as mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act.
Since reviewing this notification, all Administrators have analyzed test results, developed a district improvement plan, and continue to provide professional developement for all teachers. The new District Plan was presented to and accepted by the Everett School Committee on December 4th, 2006. The entire school community is working hard towards achieving improvement. However, this is a challenge for many distridts that have large numbers of students in each of the sub groups. The DOE will be working with Everett and offering its support in this effort.
Lack of Adequate Yearly Progress does not mean that students are not showing any improvement. It does mean that the student progress is not as high as the State would like to have us reach. Each State takes all of the schools in the district at each grade level and measures them together. This means that some subgroups at one school may have tested very well. But, all are put into one pot and measured together to identify the groups who need additional services. What it is important fro parents to know is that Everett and Massachusetts are putting goals in place to try and increase the improvement levels for all our students. Everett has instituted a full day Kindergarten and a three and four year old program for all the children in the CIty. We have established a new Fast ForWord Program to help struggling learners. We also have new Mathematic Programs being taught in the elementary schools and continue to provide extensive Professional development to help all our staff to reach all learners in their classes.
Any parent with questions about the district's "corrective action" status is encouraged to contact the Principal of your childs school. Sincerely yours, Frederick F. Foresteire Superintendent of Schools

Here is alittle more information that I gathered on the subject. The other school *in need of improvement* is the Parlin. Schools in need of improvement Lafayette School Parlin School
When a Title I school *Title 1 school is a Public School Choice Option for Schools Students attending a School, which has been identified as “in need of improvement” status, have the option to attend another public school within the District that is not in improvement status. Title 1 provides federal support for schools with a high number of students from low-income families. Title 1 status is based on the percentage of students on Free and Reduced Lunch.fails to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) goals for five consecutive years*, the district must prepare a plan to restructure the school. The restructuring plan must include one of the following alternative governance arrangements: enter into a contract to have an outside entity operate the school; arrange for the state to take over operation of the school; or any other major restructuring of the school's governance arrangement.

How many consecutive years have the Parlin and Lafayette been identified as "in need of improvement"? Are they anywhere near the 5 consecutive years? Is the present administration addressing the problem?, or is the present administration the problem? |

It is at the 5 year point. The present administration appears to be addressing the problem, but who knows. I do know however that when I go to my childrens school to observe and the directions are given to our children first in English, than Spanish, than something else, on how to do a assignment, by the time they actually start doing this assignment they don't know what they are doing! This isn't right, we are in America, English should be taught to these children outside the classroom. |

It is a very sad state of affairs that we find our city, state and country in at the present time. Something really needs to be done about our pourus borders. It is contributing to a great many problems that we as a nation are facing. |

Gotta make you laugh... On Jay Leno the other night he said that we should put up that 7 mile wall at the boarders, than when the illegals jump that wall there should be another facing them with a sign on it that says "wall 49 of 50". I thought it was priceless. |
