Question,,, My Partner and I recently purchased a home here.. On the night before trash pickup we at 2:30 that afternoon put out our 4 bags,,, of trash and yes very neatly.. The next day upon leaving the house i had a green TICKET on our front door a fine of 25,00 for having our trash out to early the day before pickup,, So off to city hall i go,, my first question was should'nt this just maybe be a warning???? NOPE was what i was told,,, ok... let me see were it is written as to what the law says???? AGAIN ,,,, NOPE they can't locate it or direct me to a department who could answer it.. Well let me talk to the person who wrote it,,, you guessed it,,, he's to busy,,,OK.. now i want to see the person running this city,, the Mayor ,, now then do i get pissed.. he is to busy,, and it's been 3 weeks and he STILL HAS NOT RETURNED OUR CALLS,,, WE MAY HAVE JUST MOVED INTO THE WRONG CITY... The best was a guy unknown to me in the backround the whole time comes up introduces himself as a local politian and and offers help ,,until i tell him where i live and gets REAL COLD,,, is this an election year???

Welcome Leak to Everett. I too got a "warning" not a ticket for putting my trash out early. I was in the habit of after picking the kids up from school having them do the trash with me before going into the house. But, I only got a warning. Others I know say they too got the $25.00 ticket. It isn't fair you should have gotten a warning. I guess they don't want the trash pickers out during daylight hours that way they can claim they don't see them when we complain. |

Leak, Yes this is an election year. If it was a politician, he or she must be a member of the Common Council. That is the only elected office that is not voted city wide, only voted in their own wards. Usually, they will take your info and inform an elected official from your ward. |

Well, let's see....
I called Pity Hall and now have some answers about the ticket.
It is not a warning because there is nothing in the city ordinances that requires a warning. When you get a moving violation ticket it is not a warning and neither is the code enforcement ticket. Same thing I was told.
Mr. Chiampi is the department head for that department. A copy of the city ordinance is available in the city clerk's office or in the code enforcement department, according to Mr. Chiampi.
Mr. Chiampi also said that you can dispute the ticket at Malden Court, the same as a moving violation. He also said that when you get a police ticket you don't go to the police officer and complain about it, you pay and don't make the same mistake twice.
That's the story from Pity Hall.
Many thanks to DWHH for his research.

Thanks to the Pup.
Does Mr. Ciampi think that people don't try to dispute moving violation tickets at the time the police officer is writing it out? Of course they do . . . if they think they've been cited unfairly.
Good grief.
The city ordinances can also be found on line, if you go to the city website. ci.everett.ma.us. The link is listed on the left hand side of the page. |

Well, All I can suggest is to convince theCommon Council and the Board of Alder men to reconsider the ordinance, if you feel it is unfair.
The code enforcement people enforce the ordinance as written and approved by the legislative branch.
Get it changed if you can.....
Personally I think that is hopeless.....
Ask the people you have voted for the revise the ordinances....
You will surprised (or maybe not) at their response.
Ah well...
