Earlier this season, playing JV, Sean sunk some free throws to beat Waltham. You have to give Coach Dib credit for giving this kid a chance. That's a part of Dib's character that never gets discussed. Just look at all those other kids that have their own challenges that help out with football and basketbll as "managers". Dib is always there for them. In fact one kid Anthony, has been managing since the early 90's.

Coach Dib does a great job for the kids in this city and the day he decides to hang it up we will miss him !

People don't appreciate what they have until it is gone !

I hope he never goes anywhere. He keeps many kids out of trouble in this city. Sean is a great kid and he deserved to get in there.

Today's Globe:

Everett's Cronk in the spotlight

America officially met Everett High school's Sean Cronk last week, and Sports Illustrated's award-winning columnist Rick Reilly made sure he was given the proper introduction.

In his March 5 column, Reilly featured Cronk, not just because he plays basketball for the Crimson Tide despite having cerebral palsy and not just because of his near-automatic consistency from the free-throw line. But because he didn't let cerebral palsy stop him from earning the chance to play the sport he loves.

The way Reilly tells it, Everett coach John DiBiaso picked up Cronk for the final few games of the season, and the decision paid off when Cronk hit a pair of free throws at the end of regulation against Peabody, helping Everett claim a 74-71 overtime win.

DiBiaso said, "This wasn't a case of me treating Sean any differently than any other player. I selected him to shoot the free throws [in place of an injured player] because he was the best player for the job."

I had to comment on a comment earlier that said that Dib makes these kids managers. Sean is in no way mentally challenged. He has cerebral palsy. People with cerebral palsy are not mentally retarded.

Sally, no one said anything about anyone being "mentally challenged", just that some of these kids are challenged; some of the kids do have greater challenges than others, and it's admirable that the Coach tries to find a way to include these kids in some capacity.

Sally Chill... No One said anything about anyones Mental State at all. It says "Challenged" this could be 1,000 different things and still going no where near retardation.

Lynda "chill" is a strange choice of words. But anyway.... Sean was upset at the thought of people believing he was mentally challenged. I was just clarifying that he is a bright kid who happens to have cerebral palsy. Thanks!

Sean was honored at the Celtics game tonight. The Everett High kids were able to buy discounted tickets to go to the game. My family are all there right now. He was on the Today show last week with Coachg Dib, and I hear Oprah has also contacted them.

I saw this boy on the Fox 25 news last night. Good for him!
and Ms EverettPride lets face it if it wasn't for his disability he wouldn't have been on the News, Today Show, and maybe Oprah Show. Try not to jump on people for making statements that are not written to hurt anyones feelings especially not a kids.

What are you talking about? Maybe the post weeks ago where I pointed out that he is a very intelligent kid with a disability? I made that statement because some people were under the impression that Sean had a mental handicap and he was upset to think of people thinking that of him. But thanks for your concern.

How long has Sean been reading this blog? Seems a bit strange to me that a High Schooler would waste the time.
