My other half was out and about the city today, and noticed a code enforcement officer writing a ticket for someone's overflowed garbage barrel.
Now, I'm sure the majority of our garbage cans/barrels were frozen to the ground after the storm as ours was, and this person was lucky enough to get one unstuck.
Do you think the city could give our citizen a break on this one? We have to deal with their inadequate snow removel process?!!...... maybe these code enforcers could of doubled this week as sanders or something, helping the city out, instead of sticking it in our faces.

In my neck of the woods the rubbish men have been leaving the barrels on the street, not the sidewalk. You have to dodge them as you drive around. Has anyone else seen this? Two weeks ago I thought it was the wind moving the barrels around but I watched this week and it's being done purposely. |

garbage was overflowing in their own yard or on the sidewalk??
It sounds to me if it was in their own yard-- then it is a common problem.
ETA--- by common problem I mean that trash is all over the yard every week.
by the way ..where was this what section of Everett? |

sox, what do you mean by overflowing? Was it all over the ground or was it stacked up in the barrel, not that it should make any difference this particular week. This city is getting ridiculous, it's becoming a "Police State." |

I know our trash day is Wednesday and for the past couple of weeks it has been really windy and my barrels ended up on the street. I usually leave them out until my son comes home and he brings them in. I cannot see them writing tickets this week, but I guess we should be careful what we ask for. I had a hard time putting a bag of trash outdoors today. Outside of my backdoor is a sheet of ice. I tossed it in the barell with no lid which means my friend the squirell will probably be in it. I fed him some bread with peanut butter hoping he would leave my trash alone LOL

I was on Webster Street this morning. It and the City Hall parking lot are the best plowed areas in the city. My street has so much ice on it, as you drive up you are afraid you are going to skid into the park cars. |

Do we have any kind of enforcement in place that the front of homes, walkways must be shoveled? I am pretty sure we have it for businesses but I didn't know about residential areas. |

I know there's an ordinance that says you can't throw snow and ice into the street, but I'm not sure about a sidewalk ordinance. |

I do recall that Councilor Hickey had tried in vain to pass a snow removal ordinance, complete with fines, much like the one that Boston has. I don't think it ever saw the light of day. |

I would think, in Everett, at least, that would be a difficult one to enforce. Not everyone has the physical capacity to be able to shovel themselves out, and I'm afraid gone are the days when neighbors stepped up to help out. Oh, I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I think it's rare.
That being said, I do believe there are a lot more property owners who are capable of getting their properties shoveled out who don't bother doing it. We spent quite a few hours over the past couple of days chipping away at the ice out there; it's a very dangerous situation -- a real hip fracture waiting to happen! |

Has anyone been into the parking lot on Norwood Street near the Post Office? We went out to dinner last night and parked in there, what a mess. It doesn't look like a plow ever went through there. Since that is a city lot, if someone were to fall on all that ice, will the city be liable? I know this was a difficult storm but this is the worst plowing I have ever seen. It is now 4 or 5 days later and it is still a mess. |

Does anyone know if there will still be a meeting tonight where it is a HOLIDAY? Can't wait to hear more on the audit. If it isn't tonight does anyone know when they have it? |
