I wonder how many of those 484 tickets belong to legally registered cars. My bet is that the majority of them are not, and will never be paid. |

Isn't there a way of checking if the cars are legally registered ?
If so, we can kill 2 birds with one stone and get the car completely taken off the road. |

massdee; What makes you think so many of the ticketed cars aren't legally registered? Isn't that something the police should be looking at? If they're not legal, won't they find that out when the information gets into the system? |

Police ?? They weren't willing to write the overnight tickets in the first place. That's why the city had to resort to civilian ticket people. |

justme, from what I understand there are thousands of dollars not paid in outstanding overnight parking tickets from when it first started. I heard it at a meeting a while ago. It is due to unregistered vehicles. When they write these tickets they do not call in to find out if the cars are legal or not. Maybe they should but they don't. So the owners of these vehicles don't pay the tickets. They cannot be found. |

Okay, I get it. I've also heard there are a lot of tickets on the books that probably won't ever be paid. I thought it was because people didn't renew their license or registration which is when they usually get caught. I hate to think there are that many unregistered vehicles sitting on our streets!
Don't they tow cars with a lot of tickets? If they do, that may eventually get them off the street! |

Yes they do tow cars with a lot of tickets but these cars are usually not in the same place as the ticketed spot from the night prior. The parking enforcement people do not have any way of knowing how many tickets have already been issued prior to the one they just issued. Only the Police have the radios to radio a plate in to see if it is connected to any crime, if it has been stolen, or whatever the case may be. Yes after a while of the parking enforcement seeing the same car over and over again and putting a ticket on it they should know that something is up BUT time will tell. I personally think that this is a waste of time without the Police doing it. You are NOT going to see any revenue come in with this all you are going to see is Hazard Lights on all night long (because just ask one of the illegals they think it is ok to park ANYWHERE they want if their Hazards are on)!!!!!! |

Yes it would be better if the police would deal with the parking issues which include expired plates, stickers, corners, hydrants, driveways, and stolen or abandonded cars. But for some reason the Everett police department is either not capable of dealing with these issues or they are unwilling. What alternative is there except find others willing to get this done. |

Well I think that rather than hiring 7 new civilian employees for the city that they should put 3 or 4 of our regular Police Officers in their police cruisers (because I really don't understand why they need to walk to see if a residential sticker is on a car) to do the job overnight. I would assume that the pay for these police officers would be about the same as for these parking enforcement people if we only use half the police in cruisers as civilians walking (that would be double of what the walking civilians get paid). Plus the cruisers would be a visual for any crimes that may have been committee but they changed their minds due to the cops being around. |

Also they could do something about these expired plates, excessive tickets, stickers, corners, hydrants, driveways, and stolen or abandoned cars. |

We've had a Resident Parking program for awhile now & obviously, the police weren't getting the job done. Illegally parked cars are not, and never has been, a priority for them. Paying the police OT to do the job won't change anything. They tried that when the program originally started & now, 2 years later, we're still in the same place with cars parked wherever & the police driving by them to go get their coffee. They're not interested. Maybe because most of them aren't affected because they don't live here! |

I disagree. I have seen the poice writing tickets regularly in my neighborhood for years. If you listen to the scanner, they do directed patrols of all areas. If they are called away while they are writing tickets, they may not have a chance to get back to that area. The police have so many more pressing issues to deal with, that they did not have the amount of time needed to write tickets all day/night long.
