With the buzz being the current Everett City Hall is 'to small' and the Broadway St.High School becoming empty (with no decent bids or buys) why not keep the High School as the 'new Everett City Hall', put the 'Arts and Cultural' or 'Teen Center'or 'Crafts and Trades Center' or whatever the current opinion is at the current City Hall and sell the Devens? (The sale of the Devens can repair these two buildings) Real Estate is value and the city is selling it all off...which I do not understand so if some one would explain that to me... Then tax payers would not have to pay for land or reconstruction of a 'New' City Hall. Everett would not lose land, neighborhoods would not be unfairly impacted, traffic and parking issues would improve with kids parking at the 'current' city hall...The Rec Hall at the High School would be kept as is for kids to use. The High School Theater at the Broadway High School could be kept for a Movie theater and Live Theater and Band Performance Complex. Let us keep connected with ALL the kids, teens, and adults that are the future of Everett. Everett is severly lacking Culture and Aestethics. We might actually get a decent Art Gallery for Kids and Adult Art. We are not Massachusetts dumping ground and that needs to be heard louder in this community to the outside communities. Teens will be more attentive to their behavior in the center of our City while giving them a place to be. There is plenty of parking for selling the Devens. People just have to stop wanting a parking place at the front door! Everett is a CITY and walking is very, very good for all of us. Now if we could just solve the dog poop problem. Perhaps Everett's newspapers could bold headline the front page "PICK UP YOUR DOG POOP?" These sidewalks are disgusting and shame on every dog owner...Would someone also explain to me the 'for rent' sign on a tree at the Broadway High School and what is that forever empty brick building beside the Broadway High School? What an eye sore)BEING GREEN in EVERETT MEANS KEEPING THE ELEGENT FRESH HISTORICAL ROW OF TREES AT THE DRIVEWAY of the Broadway St. High School...Do you ever watch them bloom in Spring?
No parking would have to be added. City Hall would be contained in one building not shifted and split and moved again...

I hadn't heard any rumblings that City Hall was too small. I do find your idea interesting. Let's bring it one step further, if they were to move City Hall to EHS, have the School Department move in there also, and any other departments that are scattered about the city. I would think by consolidating that would cut down on costs and thus save the taxpayers a few bucks.

I believe the for rent sign is on that brick building beside the high school. Back around 911 that building was checked out because of some sort of tip that it was owned by some suspicious people. It has been empty for years.

Years ago that building was known as the Masons building I believe you are right Sally, it's been empty for years. I think I can also remember it being up for sale for a long time, too.

Hello everyone,
The former masonic building is owned(and has been owned by a middle eastern group that used to own the Alarqam Market across from the High School).

The green paint, as I was told, is to identify the building as a "safe" house for Islamics in the City. It was in use as a mosque for a while and after 9-11 they stopped using it. If you check the assessor's office you will find the name of the association.

Here's some more info on the former Masonic Building.

It is owned by the Islamic Association of Massachusetts, Inc.

The principals of the corporation are:

president: Ahmad El-Arab, lives in Malden
treasurer: Rachid Mafloum, lives in Everett
clerk: Bilal Saab, lives in Malden

The building is classified as an assessor's class 905, a "benevolent and charitable organization". That means they haven't paid taxes since they bought it in 1995. Pretty good huh? I think the city should do some investigating about that. They may actually be an Al Queda cell right in Everett. Kinda strange that no one has been in the building for over twelve nyears. Homeland security should investigate. There might be a "dirty bomb" right in the heart of Everett waiting for a signal to go BOOM.

I'm not kidding guys, this place should be checked.

It has been checked. I remember hearing about it back around the time of the 911 attacks.

What is up with Everett and the Immigrant population? We all come from somewhere. Immigrants are the only terrorists in this country? If you read the Everett Independent it is them and Democrats. Hmmm...Wasn't the Oklahoma bombing a white security guard at the building? Whitey Bulger and his gang aren't terrorists? What about the kids killing themselves and each other in school and out? Pedophiles=terrorists. Law makers not instituting laws to the extent of no return for crimes against children are terrorists within the United States and abroad. I'll give you a just war. What about Mayor Menino allowing Evertt's Environmental Health to be risked so Boston appears pretty at the expense of the MYSTIC River, our back yards, and our children? Boston Waterfront Real Estate values fly up and Everett's plumett. (Does East Boston even know what is coming to their shoreline??? huh?) Thanks to Everett City Hall we keep paying more and more taxes for officials 'representing' us and our property values are slated to be trashed? I guess it depends on ones veiw of what terrorism is. Maybe Osama bin Laden IS living in that building and he is the landlord trying to rent it? Maybe Whitey Bulger will rent it under an assumed name of course. Maybe the American Govt. of the FBI will rent it for Whitey Bulger under an Islamic name-but that would draw attention...Better yet maybe Everett politicians can take it over by Eminent Domain so we have more offices for Everett City Hall... a Convention Center for visiting politicians- Mayor Menino even...For the record when I went to the BWSC headquarters in Boston and stated to Mark Sheehan, the BWSC Facicilities Supervisor, who also spoke at the January 4, 2007 Charlestown meeting, that the reason the BWSC Catch Basin Water and Sewer Treatment Processing Plant is being moved was a William Bulger manuver he stared at me red faced and bug eyed and commented 'I am not touching that one...' Mayor Menino appointed William Bulger to the Board of Trustees of the Boston Public Library. Thanks for everything Boston! Pay attention people to Mayor Menino wanting to build a new Boston City Hall in South Boston. You should take the drive to the current BWSC location between UMass and the Luxury Condo's way across the other side of a 4 lane highway. The veiw takes your breath away. Is that where Mayor Menino will retire to his Harbor Veiw Walk? NO funky smells on that walk-what would the tourists think? So tell me how Boston filed a NOTICE of IMMINENT VIOLATION stating that the BWSC Plant (even though it is there now) would be to close to a "School and Dwelling" -take the drive people -even the highway streets do not impact neighborhoods like the BWSC plant will here through out all neighborhoods in Somerville, Everett, and Charlestown (that is just the street) and they got the sight aborted??? Read the Dorchester Reporter, July 25, 2002. But our politicians can't kill this one??? Maybe we could sell the Devens to Mayor Menino as his new City Hall? Maybe he can build on the 40 acres Waste wood bought-oh- but Everett Alderman at Large Carlo Demaria is concerned his POWER would be taken away if Everett laws control the River way Environment? You know the Alderman who always has Mayor Hanlon's back-now what was the date of that cable show of the Alderman meeting when he stated that-it will come to me...We need more space for MORE officials in a 3 1/2 mile City? Management to City Size capacity, can't we balance it better? And people-HEALTH BENEFITS for Part Time City work as City and School Officials 'representing' us? How can that even be? Use that money for our fight against Boston! Is there something about this part time gig as a City Official I am missing? NOBODY is working on my issues with EVERETT to earn that, NOBODY, part time? I see them once a week. How many officials are enough? and Gov. Deval Patrick political posturing for this? Nothing is different. Sir, get real with the people.

Magda Aliberti: We do not have a problem with the immigrant population here in Everett. It is a BIG PROBLEM WITH THE "ILLEGAL" IMMIGRANT POPULATION that I have a problem with.
