The race to replace Jarrett Barrios will end Oct. 9.

The state senate voted to set the election for that date, as Barrios is stepping down July 5.

According to the Secretary of State Bill Galvin, primary will be held Sept. 11. The final election will be Oct. 9

Nominations for office require a minimum of 300 certified signatures. The deadline for submitting nomination papers to local registrars of voters or election commissioners is July 31.

Aug. 7 is the deadline for filing nomination papers with the Secretary of State.

Nomination papers will be available at the Elections Division, Room 1705, McCormack State Office Building, One Ashburton Place, Boston, and at all city and town halls in the district.

The Middlesex, Suffolk & Essex Senate District consists of the Cities of Everett and Chelsea; Ward 3, precinct 2; Wards 6 and 7; Ward 8 precincts 1 and 2; Ward 9, precinct 1; Ward 10, precinct 2 in the City of Cambridge; Ward 1, precinct 1 and Ward 2, precinct 1 in the City of Somerville; Ward 2; Ward 21, precincts 4, 6 and 7; Ward 22, precincts 1, 2 and 5 in the City of Boston; Ward 6 in the City of Revere; and Precincts 2, 6 and 10 in the Town of Saugus.

Is there any reason they can't tie this in with the municipal elections? Do they have to be held separately? This seems like an unnecessary added expense to the taxpayers.

Seems like we can never catch a break. It would have saved us a few dollars if this could have been done in conjunction with our elections.

An opportunist like him will be back for another crack at elected office sooner or later. Let's just hope the voting public won't be fooled again by this guy.

Rep. Alice Wolff from Cambridge announced today that she is not going to undertake a Senate race. That leave Galluccio coming out of Cambridge. Any takers in Everett or is everyone tied up with the mayor's race?
