What went on last night? I heard there was a fire on Main St I heard the horns but didn't hear anything else about it. Was it a home, business, something else. I also heard that some firefighters got hurt. Anyone know anything.

There was a fire at the corner of Main and, I think, Everett Street? I'm not sure of that. It's the little market on the corner, in the block of buildings next door to the Sunrise Cafe. I heard the fire started in the basement, but they haven't determined yet what caused it. According to the radio reports this morning, four people were rescued off of a back porch and a firefighter had to be rescued from the second floor. Don't know about injuries. I did go by there this morning, and the building will pretty much have to be gutted, I think. Elaine's dance studio is also in that same building.

Yes it is, and a middle eastern market. I drove by a little while ago and saw Mayor Hanlon there.

I just saw it on the noon news. They said there was a gas leak in the basement and that 2 firefighters had to be rescued from the second floor. |

Sunrise came out unscathed. There was a bit of a smoke smell in there this morning, but they were saved by the little alleyway between them and the other building. I agree . . . it is a great place, and while I feel bad for the folks who lost their business, I was really glad I could still go in and have breakfast this morning! :-)

I feel so sorry for Miss Elaine, the owner of the dance studio. My girls danced @ the school last year, she's a great lady. I ran into her this morning @ the Sunrise, she is looking for a new space to rent, she needs about 1000 sq feet, she was really upset because she had spent alot of money renovating the space and her insurance isn't going to give her enough. But what she really needs right now is a place to conduct her classes. |

I heard on the 6:00 news that they have someone in custody (no name given) that they believe started the fire (not on accident). |

Here is more info on the fire. Very sad. There was familes and firefighters that could have been killed. Disgusting.
Everett man charged with arson faces arraignment Wednesday EVERETT, Mass. -- The man accused of setting fire to an apartment building in Everett will be arraigned today.
Police arrested 20-year-old Brandon Kwedor Tuesday on two counts of arson. Kwedor is a former resident of the neighborhood.
Police believe he intentionally set the fire in the building's basement.
The fire left Everett firefighter Bill Moccia in a life-threatening situation.
Kwedor will be arraigned this morning in Malden district court.
On a side note, people from all sides have things to say today. Lets see what happens in October before making decisions because the election in November is more important than the primary.
