Do we have a Zoning Board in Everett? If so who is on that Board and are they appointed by the Mayor?

Yes the board of appeals are appointed by the mayor. |

The chief zoning officer is the building inspector department head, Mr. Sheehan. He approves or denies and then the violator, or applicant, can apply to the Board of Appeals for relief.

So, if someone is looking for a variance in the zoning law and they are "connected" in some way to the Mayor, it might be easier for them to get approval? I am not talking about Wood Waste. It is something going on in my neighborhood. |

That's entirely right. I've seen it with every administration going. The answer is an unequivocal "yes." |

Thanks, Court. That explains why during the primary this particular person had a Hanlon sign and the Hanlon people came by after the primary and removed the sign and then a DeMaria sign went up. What this person told me, "signs don't vote but I need a favor." I don't care who he votes for, I just don't like the idea of one person getting approval and another getting denied for the same thing just because their politics differ. |

After the variance is approved does it need to go before the BOA or CC? |

That's why politics in Everett is cutthroat. Everyone has their own agenda. Unfortunately, the good of the City is not foremost. All it takes is a hefty contribution to an administration to gain favors in return.

massdee, the answer is no further approval is needed. The Board of Appeals has the final say. Their decision can be appealed through civil litigation in superior court.

Thanks, Emile.
Now that brings up a different concern, Wood Waste. If the only reason Mr Thibeault has not begun to develop lower Broadway is zoning, he could essentially go before the Board of Appeals, get approved for a variance, and it will never go before the CC or BOA. Do I have that correct? |

I beleive that is correct. Unless he requires a special type of license that only the BOA is required to approve.
He sorts metal out of all the crap he takes in at Wood Waste. Actually, right now he should only have a junk dealers license. That is renewed annually by the BOA. That info should be in the city clerk's office.

Recently, I have heard conflicting stories on whether Mr Thibeault owns that property on lower Broadway. Does anyone know who actually owns that property? |
