The following comes from one of the new press releases posted on the city web site today, the one about the Mayor meeting with Congressman Markey on the stimulus package. Can anybody explain to me how the two statements below reconcile with one another?
"The Mayor made a strong point to promote the creation of long-term jobs, not short-term construction projects. The Mayor has a number of shovel ready projects on the list and is preparing to submit additional projects to the Governor’s office."

I believe the point is that some shovel ready projects help produce long term jobs (such as the Air Force Road work) and other shovel ready projects do not (such as replacing the signs on Rt 93 between Wilmington and Somerville....an item on the State's list of reviewed shovel ready projects)
Thanks for the clarification. Makes perfect sense. Too bad that an explanation like that wasn't included in the original press release; it's confusing without it.
It does not appear that Matt Laidlaw returned the e-mail from March 25, 2009
(On March 25, 2009 we emailed the Mayor's Director of Communications, Matt Laidlaw for all information pertaining to the purchase of all new vehicles. He has until April 8, 2009 to provide with this information.)
