I picked up the Independent Newspaper on my porch this morning and began to read it. I came across this article concerning Lorna De Feo that infuriated me! This rag is getting more and more pathetic by the week.
Lona Defeo
To our way of thinking, Lona Defeo,the city's maintenance director has paid the price for her involvement in the so-called contract fixing scheme.
She pleaded guilty recently in Superior Court to minor charges,gave up her city pension and was wished a Merry Christmas by the judge presiding who added, " I hope this doesn't ruin your holiday."
She keeps her job with the city, which she never vacated, even during the investigation that lasted for months.
Where we come from, this would be the end of the matter-but not in Everett.
There are those who will try to keep Mrs. Defeo's wound sore and open, with salt being poured onto it at every oppurtunity.
Mrs. Defeo's day in court has come and gone.
She cannot be tried twice for the same crime.
To those in Government and outside of it who will attempt to crucify her again and again, we urge you to let it go.
She has already paid the price.
The Independent is a bigger piece of trash than I realized. First of all she has not "paid the price" we the taxpayers are paying the price when she cashes her payroll check that we pay for!! A "so called contract fixing scheme," are you kidding me, she is a convicted felon who plead guitly to bid rigging! If Josh Resnick and the others let some high school kids write for the Independent it would be more credible than ever! Do you even research anything before you sit at the keyboard? I am not letting it go, and in fact since this article hit such a nerve in me, I am forwarding it to the State Ethics Committee, the Attorney General, all the REAL newspapers, and the news stations. Many of them have asked me to keep them informed and I am sure they would love to read this garbage.
Steve Smith is the only one in this city with the guts to stand up for what is right!! I cannot believe we have all these elected officials who kiss Forestiere's ass. It is so pathetic and it will not be over until something is done about it. And I for one will not be taking the advice of the oh so knowlegeable people at the Independent and keeping my mouth shut. And as far as him saying other cities would let this go, ARE YOU KIDDING????? Only here in Everett where Forestiere seems to run it all!!!!
Stand up people this is not acceptable.

To my friends in the "Resistance":
1. The Independent's way of thinking is "Fred's Way." Josh probably bolted from that 12 step program I recommended some months ago, and called Fred. "Might as well face it...he's addicted to Fred," (with Robert Palmer's tune in the background) and all that luscious ad revenue.
2. These were not "minor charges" - and I don't know what part of felony and suspended jail time that Josh missed, but these were major charges. Where the hell is their editor, who should be checking for errors? Oh yeah, that would be JOSH! The clowns at the Independent need an ombudsman.
3. The "so-called" bid rigging scheme has been more than validated in the State Auditor's report and Lona's guilty plea. It's isn't "so-called" - it's a reality.
4. The wound in Mrs. Defeo is largely of her own making and Fred. Blaming people who know right from wrong is just obfuscating.
5. Paid the price? Not yet, but hopefully the bill will come due and get paid when Fred goes to trial himself.
Keep the Faith, friends. It is always darkest before the dawn. One fine day, Fred will go on trial, the Independent's credibility meter will peg past zero, and all the spineless and/or co-opted elected officials that supported this guy will be dancing higher than Fred Astaire. |

Well someone replied to me from the paper. He says the problem is not with his paper printing outrageous requests for us to leave Lona alone. The prblem is with a city government who allows a convicted felon to run a newspaper???? Are you kidding me??

What?!!! Is this Josh Resnick harkening back to Jim Mitchell's past legal issues? This coming from a man who claims Lona has paid the price for her crimes? Well guess what, Josh. So has Mitchell. Remember . . . he went to jail. And he didn't stay on Chelsea's payroll while he was under indictment or after he was convicted.
Believe me, I'm not defending Mitchell, because he's just as co-opted as Resnick is when it comes to turning a buck. But for Resnick to try to excuse his own bad behavior in this way is just -- well -- there's no word for it.

| Sally . . . that's also classic Josh. He fumbles on an issue, gets called on it, and then promises to "make it all better" the next time around. We'll see . . . they were certainly talking out of both cheeks of their asses today, that's for sure. I apologize for the crude language, but there's nothing more obscene than what's going on in our city right now. |

Emile - what are we expecting for Wednesday? That Josh will feed his reading public some little tidbit about Fred to prove that's he's not been bought and paid for? Even Providence, Rhode Island, home to the Buddy Cianci scandal, has written about our hometown scandal, headed up by our never ceasing to amaze school committee and the man they worship, Fred Foresteire.
All I'm saying, is that it better be more than some anonymous little piece about his kid at the Housing Authority. That's done and over with. |

No Court, what I meant was that there is a big sale on bedding at Filene's on Wed. Josh and Freddie should take advantage if they are sleeping together.
I am somewhat stunned that a Providence RI newspaper has covered our little pathetic school department in their paper.
And, they had the right spin...

Thanks for clarifying, Emile. I will be at that sale myself, so if I do see Fred or Josh there, I will be sure to let everyone know.
I am not stunned that a big Providence, Rhode Island newspaper would cover this scandal - because it's that big. Our school department and school committee may be pathetic, but on the scandal meter, it's turning even the cast-iron stomachs of the editorial board of a large Rhode Island newspaper. It's too bad that our own local press can't recognize the seriousness and the impact of this scandal on this city, the school system and most of all, the children. They laugh at Freddy now - behind his back and to his face. There's no respect there, and why should there be?
