I believe that it is only scheduled to run this weekend at 12 PM and 8 PM, although I could be wrong about that.

What purpose would it serve to send a copy of the tape to the DOR? Would they be able to do anything?

Probably not but it would be kind of satisfying for the DOR to review it and for the mayor to know they have heard his lies. I just hate for him to get away with anything else.

I'm guessing the DOR is fully aware of the insanity that is John Hanlon. Remember . . . they had to deal with him through the whole budget debacle.

It is simply unbelievable that Hanlon was not recalled long before the September Primary. Talking about not having a clue. His statement that the DOR sets the tax rate proves that the man learned absolutely nothing about municipal finance in all of his years in public service. No wonder he is the only mayor in Everett's history to not place in a Primary election. Everett citizens should thank their lucky stars that today is Hanlon's last day as Mayor. As for Billy Hart, he ought to be ashamed of himself getting overpaid as the Chair of the Assessors Board.

I still think the tape should be sent to the DOR, just in case the new administration caught the "virus" from the last administration.

We are very curious to see what happens over the next week.

Has any of Carlo's staff trained with the Mayor's office staff to learn procedures. The regular stuff, like bill sheets, attendance, computer network, etc. Or will the new people just be fumbling around?

Haven't heard much from AVGMOM recently.....preparing for the inauguration, no doubt.

I had hoped that I would never have to post about this man again but he just won't go away.

Has anyone seen today's Independent yet? If not, check out page 3. It a re-hash of that 35 wasted minutes of my life that I'll never get back from last week. Although it doesn't claim that the DOR sets the tax rate, it does contain this nugget:

"Due to prudent and proper handling of municipal finances by the Hanlon Administration, the tax rate for FY07 and FY08 were balanced and approved by the Commonwealth's Department of Revenue."

Who paid for this crap? "Na na na na......"

I do not understand. I didn’t get the paper. Are you saying that the previous administration set the tax rate and DOR approved it? I guess the five million dollar question is "who" set the tax rate? I didn’t see the show on TV but maybe it was a misunderstanding that DOR set the tax rate? “Maybe” he meant to say DOR “approved” it and not “set” it. In any event, my mortgage payment will be increasing. I am not happy because the streets are filthy, my street doesn’t get plowed, and I can go on and on. So who do I blame if I had to foreclose on my home like so many people already have? Hanlon or DOR for approving this?

Tails,

The Hanlon Administation set the tax rate for FY07 and FY08; the DOR certifies it. That's the way it works. On the ECTV show, Hanlon went out of his way to claim otherwise. Also, the phrase "Due to prudent and proper handling of municipal finances" got to me. Every city or town is obligated to submit the necessary information annually to the DOR for the certification of the tax rate; it made it sound like they were doing something heroic.

Oh, thanks tetris. The ***** foot'n around doesn't surprise me. I just feel so bad for people that are loosing their homes to foreclosures more than ever to keep paying higher taxes for nothing and a former Mayor that just didn't care. I can only hope and pray that Mayor DeMaria will do his best to help the taxpayers and all citizens of Everett.

What it looked like to me, Hanlon was trying to shift the blame for our outrageous tax increases from his administration to the Department of Revenue. Since day one, he has always tried to blame someone else for his incompetence.
