I would have expected them all to have email accounts within the cities mail server. This would allow for email to be properly backed up, archived and made available to the next guy that takes office.
These are the email addresses from the City of Everett's web site. What I find interesting is that they don't all have email addresses, and Joe King is the only one in Ward 2 with one.
The city council are city employees and should have their own city email addresses for city council business. This should be mandated by the city as a policy for accountability reasons. All emails for city business are public records and are required by law to be saved on secure servers and produced upon request.
The councilmen and aldermen may not like hearing this but that is the truth. The city clerk should enforce this policy as he is the "keeper of the records". Every email and document generated by the city is public record.
As a point of information, through the public information act, every email and document generated by any mayor or his staff or department head is available for the asking. Just ask the City Clerk. Actually the Secretary of State's office can provide the statute requiring that compliance.
