This is one on the reasons to look at a 4 year term. BUT with the quality of the people we've had in office the past few years, I can't imagine anyone would even consider it.
If we ever manage to elect someone with a brain, who truly is looking out for us and not their friends and family, and anticipate continuing the trend of electing intelligent people, it's worth considering. |

I was eavesdropping on a conversation today and it made me curious. I have no clue who they were talking about. They were talking about some candidate passing himself off as someone else with the same last name, that used to work at city hall.
Do any of you guys know who or what they were talking about. I was dying to ask. I didn't think they would appreciate me listening in on them....LOL

Isn't that funny.......I heard the same thing about a candidate for Alderman that was trying to pass himself off as a former city employee, with the same last name, but no relation I believe.
Trying to use his credentials was what I was told. SMALL world and word gets around REAL fast. |

If it's someone running for Alderman, that narrows it down. There aren't that many running. What do we have, six? McGonagle, Puleo, Cardello, Matewsky, Mangan and Simonelli. I know for sure Matewsky, McGonagle and Simonelli never worked at city hall, except as an elected official.

Are you sure they weren't talking about Dorothy Martin vs Dorothy Martin Long? They can easily be confused with votes being cast for Dorothy Martin when the intent was to vote for Dorothy Martin Long.
I think they saving grace there will be that the Charter Commission candidates will be listed alphabetically. |

| Asked around and it's Puleo not correcting people when they think he is someone else by the same last name. |

It is extremely easy to check credentials. It's definitely been done before. You call the schools, business, etc and just say you're checking out the credentials. Its public info. Although I cant imagine, in this day and age, how anyone would fabricate their background..... Have they not learned?
Just "MY" Humble Opinion...........

| There are rumors abound of lay offs, how easily Carlo forgets that he appropriated @ $947,000.00 to avoid laying off any workers until Fiscal 2010. I also agree how can he lay off with so many new hires at City Services. He has to let them go first. Then there is the issue of the firing of the new water superintendent. There are rumors galore on this one too from him and the director not getting along, him & his clerk not getting along, him doing shoddy work, but the one I tend to believe is that he knew the reason behind the "estimated" bills and was fired for bringing it up. I wonder if the taxpayers will ever find the real reason. |

City To Hold Public Hearing Regarding Tax Rate Shift
On Wednesday November 4th, Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr, will call a Joint Convention of the City Council and hold a Public Hearing to discuss how the FY 2010 City of Everett property tax levy shall be distributed between the Residential, Open Space, Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property classes. The hearing, required by Massachusetts Law will be held in the City Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m.
I got this from the city's website so don't shoot the messenger on the grammar. Why do it after the election, just get it over with and tell us the truth.
The only reason Carlo appropriated that $947,000.00 was because it was an election year, and there was a threat to strike. All he did was buy some time, we all know it's coming anyway. I don't want to see anyone laid off, but did the taxpayers pay almost a million dollars only to buy time for a few months? That does not sound fiscally responsible to me. |

Moe, So the city has burned through yet another water superindentendent? Why is that position so hard to keep filled?
Tails, The only thing that the public hearing will do is to get a recommendation on the adoption of the Minimum Residential Factor (MRF), i.e., how much of the tax burden will be shifted to commercial tax payers. Mr. Hart already gave us a preview of that, i.e., that the administration will be recommending that the maximum allowable amount be shifted to the commercial users. I believe that's the same recommendation that's made every year. The recommendation will then be voted on by both branches of the City Council. Usually, it just breezes through but since there has been talk by some councilors of giving commercial tax payers a break, who knows exactly what will happen this year. This is only a step in setting the tax rate; the information will still have to be submitted to the DOR for certification.
So, the new tax rate will not be announced next week. The city won't announce it until it is certified by the state in case there is an error in the paperwork they submit. But, assuming the recommended MRF is adopted and barring any errors, I'm sure that somebody knows what the tax rate will be already. |

The latest I heard the Chief of Staff Michael Buckley was dismissed without warning. Sounds harsh and wonder what could have happened.
This is all unconfirmed, but what I heard. Anyone hear this? |

Tails, you phrased that very nice. What I heard he was "fired on the spot"! I have no idea what happened and of course have not confirmed it. It's just what I've been told.
If true, it appears the mayor can't seem to keep the high paid people he brought on board.

This is beginning to be routine. We're in a very sad state here in Everett. What will it take before we can thrive again?
Just MY Humble Opinion.....

I also heard today that the Inspector Generals office has made it public that they are investigating the Solicitors Office and Jill Barringer………..Jill for the purchase of those cars that appear to have been an illegal purchase.
I’m also hearing that Jill is not a happy camper and is blaming someone that was not even there when these cars were purchased.
