I still feel this is a great idea for the kids, especially the ones that are not sports superstars in Everett. They are absolutely on the right path targeting kids 13-18. Those are trying years for young boys and girls.
I do feel that lots of questions need to be answered, and I’m not sure how I feel about putting in the Rec Center anymore and it was just to secure the money. Like Whatsup said….now what?
According to the representatives from the Boys and Girls Club, they would like to be open 3 days a week. They were hoping for the hours of 4-8. What about the activities already in the Rec Center?
If…they go back to the field house, what would be the cost to maintain it? What, if any, would be the cost to the taxpayers?
There are a lot of logistics that need to be worked out and one thing I would truly hate to see is having the Boys & Girls Club come here, and be gone next year. That would not serve any purpose. It should be a 3-5 year plan. It’s not fair to the children to have these mentors in their lives and then pulled away. That’s something else I would like to see…what the 3-5 year plan is.
I think the donations they received for this was very generous and those people should be thanked publicly, maybe even invited to the city council.
Does anyone have insight or more information about them coming to Everett?

I looked up the schedule and with basketball I dont think this club will be in the recreation center. I cut and pasted a link from the cities site You must be logged in to see this link. |

At first, I thought that this sounded like the cart got put in front of the horse...again. But, instead, I get the feeling that somebody threw a monkey wrench into the plan when the Rec Center wasn't going to be turned over to School Department to house the High School exercise equipment. Just a guess though. |
