Couple arraigned for embezzlement

By Dan O'Brien / The Daily Item
MARBLEHEAD - A former employee of Richards Heating and Air Conditioning of Marblehead was arrested Thursday for embezzling over $30,000 from the company.

Katelyn Antzak, 22, of 7A Wilbur St., Everett and her boyfriend James McCabe, 24, of 64 Vernal St., Everett, were arrested at the Everett police station Thursday morning and charged with multiple counts of embezzlement, larceny, check forgery and passing false checks.

Authorities identified Antzak as a former employee who was in charge of paying the company's bills.

Police said she and McCabe were seen on surveillance cameras using company debit cards at an ATM machine at Lincoln Avenue Market in Saugus and cashing checks at Everett Credit Union among other locations.

Police allege Antzak would write out a check from one company account and cash it to herself by signing as a company representative under a separate company account in some instances.

Robert Richards, the company owner, called Marblehead police in early December after he noticed several thousand dollars missing from his company bank accounts. He immediately suspected Antzak because she was one of few people with access to them.
Richards told police he was worried because the company had been very busy over the past few months and had been making a good amount of money, according to a police report.

Police reports indicate Antzak lied several times when asked by investigators where the money went.

In one instance, she allegedly told investigators she withdrew a small amount of money from an account to purchase gas at a Revere gas station that only accepted cash. Police went to the station at the corner of Broadway and Revere Street and discovered it accepted all major credit cards.
