Just for fun, lets see if we can come up with a list of cuts for the city to help with the financial crisis we are all facing.

Do we really need Matt Laidlaw? What exactly does he do for the residents of Everett?

78K that the taxpayers pay for a Public Relations person, for the mayor. Have you seen the city of Everett website? Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

We are paying for a campaign slogan for the mayor. Paying for the website AND paying his salary. ECTV is a disaster, and has been for quite some time.

Who's responsible for that?

Tails,

Can you think of any cuts that could take place before they cut into public safety?

How about the BOA and CC not take their pay and benefits?

Absolutely...........

All the part time favors in the mayors office. Also, there was no need to just hire the woman from code enforcement into his office (knowing perfectly well layoffs are coming) AND...just to shove it to the union. Three right there.

Lets look at ECTV. Do we need a director that replaced Scott and the PR person for the mayor............I would say NO. They certainly have not proved themselves. I still want to know.........what does Matt Laidlaw do? We never had this type of position before, so we certainly do not need it now, in an economical crisis.

I will think of more, but I am shocked that this administration can not come up with something better than this, knowing perfectly well the type of society we are living in today.

WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO LOOSE ANY FIRE OR POLICE. If we had to, I hope every other option was exhausted, but I'm not seeing it.

We do not need a mayors assistant at $81,000.00. Between him, the solicitor and all the other lawyers in the law office, there is no need for that type of salary.

It is a known fact, and we already can see it that crime is high during an economical crisis so it makes NO SENSE to be HELL BENT on going after safety. I am very disturbed by the mayor's constant non-nonchalant attitude towards the diminishing fire trucks and the fireman of this city.

I agree the BOA and CC should do their parts in helping out. I know this is Revere...but did you see this?

I just thought of another......the budget directors assistant that makes $54,000.00.

How can someone have an assistant, that does not even work full time?

Didn't the city council vote for a hiring freeze? I guess the mayor didn't like that idea. He hired his new Chief of Staff after that vote. That could have saved $81K.

I'm sure the city can save a bunch of money by NOT paying vendors more than their contracts are worth...... ALSO..... Stop over spending your budget.

What about free cash? ……… Almost a million was spent (shows on RECAP) without the approval of the BOA or CC. OVERSPENT ACCOUNTS. He spent like a drunken sailor in 2008 .

Now this year…….. he has 5 + million in free cash. What is he doing with it? I think he’s waiting to see if someone runs against him to lower taxes that DEFINITELY WILL BE INCREASING AGAIN.

I have another issue………… Those sidewalk cleaners are going to hurt someone. This morning… Across from Parlin School……… AS KIDS WERE GOING TO SCHOOL…… they were driving on sidewalks and adults and children had to walk AROUND THEM.

I personally feel the sidewalk sweepers were one expense that could have waited until the city was better set financially. Does anyone remember what they cost? Could that have been a salary to save a job?

The spending needs to stop. We just can't afford it right now.

I'm just thinking of other ways to make cuts other than safety.

Does anyone know if the city has a longevity benefit?

You must be logged in to see this link.

How does the pension benefit work? Is it a one day, one year accrual?

If so, why don't they think about removing this from all municipal employees?
