I question the salary and if there's been an increase. Also, how can you have a union position and a management position at the same time? It may be okay legally, but doesn't sound right to me. My concern with this would be salary and hope people are not being awarded with taxpayer dollars for their allegiance. |

Sounds like deja vu from the Ragucci era, and we all know how that turned out |

Rumor has it that Matewsky has stepped down from the Common Council. I am trying to verify it. I have it heard from several different people but no one in an official position. |

He may have been forced out because of the Texas Roadhouse fiasco.
Although he's not my favorite, I have some questions about what happened. My other half thinks it was a set-up & I just can't wrap my head around Wayne being that stupid. He's not the smartest bulb in the string but he's generally pretty mild mannered & pleasant. Of course if he wasn't sober, that could make a difference.
Since I wasn't there, I'll never know what the real story is............ |

Do you think this concerns Wayne Matewsky also?
BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A member of the Mass. House of Representatives is the subject of an investigation into what are being called "serious allegations."
In a statement released to FOX 25 on Thursday night, a spokesperson for House Speaker Robert DeLeo confirms that a state lawmaker is under investigation. The investigation is being conducted by the House Committee on Ethics after "serious allegations" made by a House employee were brought to the attention of Speaker DeLeo two weeks ago.
After a preliminary review, Speaker DeLeo concluded that there was reason to launch a full investigation.
There is no word on who the lawmaker is at this time or what course of action could be taken as a result of the investigation.
Stay with FOX 25 and MyFoxBoston.com as we learn more about this developing situation.
Full statement:
"Two weeks ago the legal counsel to the House of Representatives brought serious allegations made against a House member by a House employee to the attention of the Speaker. Upon notification, the Speaker directed counsel to conduct a preliminary review of the allegations to determine if they had merit. After conducting the preliminary review, counsel concluded that there was sufficient cause to warrant a full investigation. Last Friday, Speaker DeLeo, acting under the authority of House Rule 16, therefore, directed the House Committee on Ethics to fully investigate the allegations. In order to protect the integrity of the Ethics Committee investigation, Speaker DeLeo will have no further comment on this matter."

I don't think so Tails. This sounds like a sitting member of the House. |

I can't see it being a set-up. How would anyone know he was going to the Texas Roadhouse that night. How would anyone know he would be seated next to a handicapped child. I don't know what happened but I'm pretty sure something did. Why else would he go back and apologize. |

I agree something happened massdee but we'll never the whole story. I think what brought up the conspiracy theory was the letter in the paper from the Toto family in support of Wayne. |

I really can't see Mr. Matewsky stepping down unless he was giving up on State Rep as well. What purpose would that serve?
Despite what Mr. Rodriques said the other night, I don't believe that the City Council has the power to remove anybody from the City Council. It's certainly not in the old charter. And the new charter has provisions for recall, but that's by the voters, or if an elected official is convicted of a felony. Are either on in effect at the moment? Only the city solicitor would know for sure. But even the new charter has nothing in it that gives the City Council the right to remove one of it members on its own. There could be something in state law; but I tend to doubt that.
I think it is a correct statement to say that we'll probably never know for sure what at the Texas Roadhouse that night. But I believe that we can weight all of the different accounts and other information that we've all heard, seen and read and make a pretty fair assesment of what we think probably happened that night. To me, one side of the story seems to be pretty consistant; the other side, not so much.
There are a lot of accusations on the other board that everybody that is against Mr. Matewsky is just believing "one-sided" media accounts of what happened that night. The thing is, I think that most people, in this city anyways, that really care about this issue have probably interacted Mr. Matewsky over the years and have an opinion on him, one way or the other. And that also colors our opinion of what we believe most likely happened that night.
A set-up? I agree with Massdee; I don't see how it can be. However, someone(s) taking advantage of a situation that presented itself to them. Definitely. |

Justme,
Take a look at the latest "Sounds of Everett" article in this week's Advocate; it's online if you don't have the paper. There's a new allegation about that ad in the article. Not sure at all what to believe about that, yet anyways. |
