CFO pieces (3 & 5) got laid on the table for two weeks (or more if necessary) pending the city solicitor's written opinion on whether or not the new charter is in in effect or not.

School Department piece was sent to the Common Council for concurrence with a recommendation to refer to the Mayor, the Superintendent and the School Committee.

Anxiously awaiting all the necessary research and opinion from the superb city solicitor on the CFO. Charter has been around how long?……….She should know this stuff like the back of her hand. So many unnecessary delays with “awaiting research” Give me a break.

How about making a phone call to the charter consultant? I’m sure he knows the answers. How long has this been on the calendar?...........

As far as Adam goes… another councilor, another city position…yet another total disregard to state ethics law. It’s a Joe Hickey/Frank Nuzzo redux.

"Gone are the days," he said, "when the city employees are hired because of their acquaintances instead of their qualifications."

Does anyone have the agenda? As of yet, it's not posted on the city's web site.

15. & 16. - I really didn't get why Alderman DiPerri felt it was necessary to vote on these pieces when the Mayor had requested that they be referred back to sponsor. I'm even more confused why they were reconsidered later on. So they can't be brought up again later? I really see don't how the CFO piece, no matter how it is presented, is ever going to make it past the Board of Alderman anyways (same thing goes for linkage fee and parkway overlay district pieces that were being pushed again in the last week's papers too.)

18. Anybody privy to a copy of the city solicitor's opinion on the new charter? I know that a lot of it got read at the meeting but it was kind of hard to follow like that. If I understand the decision correctly as discussed last night, the new budget process will be followed even though it involves a Mayor that doesn't exist yet (because he wasn't elected for a four year term) and a City Council that does exists either (because it is still a two branch legislature); but a prohibition that requires a city councilor to wait a year before they can take a city job won't, necessarily. I don't think the implementation of the charter was intended to be this difficult.

24. Although I'm still not sure that this piece is entirely appropriate, I'm glad it got scaled back some at least. But I still think a better idea would be for City legislators to pick up the telephone and call the appropriate authorities rather than to get themselves in the middle of something where they may not belong.

25. Is it just me? Between this piece and the number of times it was mentioned that the Mayor wasn't in the building last night, do you think that they were trying to send the public a message last night?

Missed most of the joint convention on the Water & Sewer Enterprise budget. Sounded like it sparked some controversey. Sending it to the Finance Committee seemed to be the correct decision.

I’m certainly not an expert, but I have to ask…how many charters can be in place at the same time?

I really think they need help from the state.
