There has been some speculation as to whether Steven Mazzie will return as the Chief of Police under John Hanlon. Mr. Mazzie has had to deal with a recent influx or criminal elements involved in prostitution, gang violence, and drug sales; particularly in our industrial areas over the past two years. Everett has been under particularly higher crime rates in the past year, which some are blaming on Chelsea's recent crackdown on prostitution and gangs, where the crime rate has been high for years. In John Hanlon's election campaign, he pointed out that the crime rate increase has included record numbers of robberies as well, and he presumabley intends to do something about it. Will this mean the end of Mazzie's tenure as chief? Does he deserve more time to adjust to new conditions or is he really the wrong man for the job? He was part of the McDonald's bust but is that going to help or hurt him in the new administration?

I would like to point out here that I see the police out en force on the lower end of Linden Street at least once or twice a month. I have also heard from an anonymous commenter to my blog that there was a rape and assault after a home invasion on Hancock Street! Home invasion is a new level of crime in my opinion. What is going on? I don't expect things like that in Everett...

I am an average resident of Everett who would like to see more communication about anything and everything to do with Everett

Welcome to the party, pal....

Keep your doors locked.

But don't worry, Hanlon will fix that as well.

This will be Utopia, remember?

years ago the police detectives wouldn't log all the break-ins. so, anyone looking to move into a neighborhood, might think the crime rate was low. now, kids cutting through parks are handcuffed and driven around and hassled until they get bored. don't let your kid walk around with a hood up - they are all gang members. this city could be an entire season of the surreal life.

The word going around is that Mazzie will not return as police chief as his 3 year deal expires at the end of the year. And who will be elevated to the top cop job will be the most important decision of the new administration as they go forward.

Another patronage decision.

We will soon see if Hanlon picks the right person for the job.

As I said before, who was the biggest Hanlon butt kisser at the station?

Your new chief is that person.

Ah, jstthefcts - still NOT sticking to the facts, are we? More rumor and speculation. You are aware that Mr. Mazzie doesn't have to go anywhere? He can stay right here, go back to Captain, and rake in the detail bucks that he couldn't as Chief? We've had both a police chief and a fire chief do that...so it wouldn't be a precedent.

steve mazzie will not return he spoke to his people today. Now the question is who will be our new chief inside the station or outside who ever Mr. Hanlon picks I hope he/she can bring order to the police dept. and what I mean about order, get these officers walking the beat enough is enough with the riding in the cars hanging around Dunkin Donuts, Panera Bread, and anywhere else they may hang. We now have home invasions on the rise in this city and its scary. I believe all cars belong in their sector and not having coffee at friends homes. Every morning I see a cruiser parked on jefferson ave every morning 4 days in a row. now tell me, is that fair

I don't get out hardly at all since my diabetes has gone into overdrive. but before when I was a madwoman on the road, I used to see cruisers ALL THE TIME< taking turns without directionals, not coming to a complete stop at stops and intersections, and of course, not wearing a seatbelt. I want so much to be able to pull them over and give them a ticket. Wouldn't it be great if they were held to the same standard as us? Then I remember the times when I should have gotten a ticket and I got a break, or when I probably was speeding and I wasn't ticketed and I think, well, I can't paint with a broad brush. It would be nice to have surveys on performace of our city employees. From school, public safety, DPW, and city hall employees. Some are out of this world, and others, well, a little too much of the old power trip. Hey, John Hanlon, how about it? Let's have a city service survey in with our excise, or tax bill? What do ya say?

Great idea.

But he will have to hire someone to correlate all the data. Plus the survey may show the inexperience of his new appointees.

Well, since it looks like all the old guys are back, John McCarthy, Joe Marchese and the rest....perhaps we should bring back Chief Bonnell?

I love your point of view.

Why not? All's fair in love, war, and politics.

This city will really fall to pieces.

Don't forget Michael Marchese...he will definetely be a new department head.

But which department?

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Marchese has always said that he invented code enforcement so this would be a perfect job for him. Does anyone think he can work a full time job?

I guess Ravenesi will be the director of city services. At least he will retire with the largest money.

The current director position makes $87,000 dollars a year.

Nice chunk of change.

I cannot see John Hanlon giving David Ravanesi any position of significance in the new administration, i know that he most likely delivered a lot of votes and more importantly i would imagine he also delivered a lot of cash. That being said , it is no secret that he and Ragucci had a major falling out over the last couple of years, but also in the beginning when the "shakedowns" of the Ragucci administration began, it was Ravanesi who was the "bagman"

Now H1 do you really think John Hanlon will keep the new people coming in with these out of control salaries? I don't think so, I could be wrong but, if Hanlon cuts all the salaries that the Ragucci administration is paying out to all his friends Guess What there will be money saved. Don't you think?
