I just got a call telling me that Lona DeFeo plead guilty to procurement fraud and received probation and community service. [not sure I typed the the charges altogether correct].

Question: Does this mean she will lose her pension? Does anyone know how that will work?

This does not bode well for Fred, since it seems everyone else involved in this have copped to the charges or lesser charges as a deal.

What do you guys make of this?

When you plead guilty the judgement is the same, GUILTY. The penalties may be different. But guilty is guilty.

She should lose her pension.

Unless the school committee has something up their sleeves.

I would be surprised if she lost her job.

Sally - how would the school committee justify keeping on a convicted felon? How does Fred, with his much applauded, A+ managerial and educational skills, get out from under the fact that his manager had a bid rigging racket right under his nose? I think the school committee is going to have a hell of time explaining to the public why they would keep on a convicted felon - cause that's exactly what she is. No more "innocent until proven guilty" - she's guilty.

I agree that she should be fired immediately. After the way the School Committee handled the situation to begin with I just do not have faith enough to be sure she will be fired. It would not surprise me if she got her pension. Nothing would surprise me. Remember there were not very many people protesting Freddy staying on while under indictment.

She's a convicted felon . . . by law, she can't keep her pension. It's not up to the School Committee or the Superintendent. Not that it would surprise anyone for them to try to pull something -- but it's not likely they'll be able to pull it off. Perhaps she'll have sense enough to tender her resignation and avoid the further embarrassment of being fired.

I believe there's a School Committee meeting Monday night. We should all be watching this very carefully . . .

Lisa - guess what? John McGonagle, the former Middlesex County Sheriff LOST his pension. That's a fact. There is no precedent for a person convicted of an offense occuring in the course of their employment allowing said person to keep their pension. So Lisa, do you like the Texas Roadhouse or shall we meet at Fridays?

Well if enough "co-conspirators" who plead guilty are really loyal to Fred, he could get off scot-free. If they refuse to testify against him and in fact declare that Fred was not involved, it may get harder not easier to make the case against Fred. It may be hard for the DA to prosecute if no one needs to deal (that probation thing is SOFT already) and there is no one left to threaten with future prosecution. Maybe this plea is a part of Fred's stalling court strategy paying off.

Lisa, McGonagle won his pension back? I just did a search and found nothing to document that...and if he won that pension back despite his conviction for bribes, that would have been news. I am willing to concede if I'm wrong, but I am going to need proof.

I beg to differ Court but it was news that is why it's sticking in my head maybe about 4 or 5 years ago front page of the boston herald I think Cellucci /Swift were in office or maybe weld was in then it was front page news. If I remember correctly they took it away he filed court papers and won it back on an appeal( and court documents could of been impounded from the public viewing if you are looking on the computer) for some reason this is sticking in my brain. you might want to check the hiller report for some reason I think he did the story on this and if not him it Jon Keller "Keller at Large" I remember this I know I am not losing it.

If lorna made a deal with the DA to plead out, then maybe the DA will require her to testify and tell the dirt about FFF.

A plea bargain usually means that the state gets something in return.

The thing is, will she tell the same story when she testifies on the stand that she told the DA's office to make the deal?
