We are having an extremely snowy winter. If you want to see real bad streets drive through Malden. Considering the amount of snow we have had, the residents of this city need to have more patience. No one is happy with the conditions, but we need to be realistic about the circumstances as they are. I really don't understand the need to only complain. I think that under the extreme snow levels things are so bad.
I think everyone understands what a horrible winter we have had and people do have patience. But when the streets are still a mess, and we hear that ONE contractor charged the city $17,000.00 for one day....we have a problem here. I'd like to know what contractor that was. And I'm sorry but when we are in a snow emergency and you implement a parking ban, go through with it and don't hold off because of the schools. If indeed the towing had started when it should have...the two-way streets would be in much better condition. Now the parking ban is over and you still cant park on the even side because the job was not done right.
As far as what other cities and towns look like...I really don't care what other cities and towns do or do not do. Maybe they don't implement a parking ban like Everett. Everett is unique and I think that's another problem lately too. That's all we hear from city government is "what other cities and towns are doing"... or "what they look like." We are different in demographics, size and everyone cuts through Everett and uses Everett roads to get to work which only adds to the weather problem. I think people need to focus what's best for us and never mind what other cities and towns look like or do.
People have the right to their opinion, it's not always complaining, and my opinion is the city was unorganized and did not do a good job. There's still issues on my street everyday and a huge snow pile down the middle of the street, and all the while......there were THREE plows plowing Belmont Street at the same time. That's the widest street in the city. No need for that...and that's what I mean about unorganized. And of course....we all know who lives on Belmont Street. When people see things like that and other streets are treated like they could care less, then people do have the right to complain or voice opinions. After all, we are the ones paying for all this. |

Yes, you are right. It is not always organized and definately a better job could be done. And yes, some streets get done better than others. But still this is an unusual storm year. No melting in between and storms close together. However, I still stand by the "Malden" comment. Yes we are a "Unique" city in size and demographics, but they have more resources and didn't do nearly as well. It was just a comparison that shows everyone is not doing the best. I have some definite complaints about how cleaning, towing, plowing, parking, etc.is handled in the city, but I also try to look at things objectively. For instance, the piece on the CC agenda about the bus stops. That is not a responsibility of the City of Everett. However, why can't the City do some of the busiest stops for the safety of its citizens? Obviously it is an overwhelming problem for the "T" to get every bus stop in every city they serve cleaned out. So, I am not just saying Everett is perfect, but sometimes things just don't get done the way we would like to see them done or even to the best of the ability of the city. |

One of the problems that I noticed, the plows didn't push the snow close enough to the curbing from the first storm on. On my street, they tended to do a swipe down the center of the street and never cleaned up the even side at all. Another problem is the huge piles at the corners of the streets. In my honest opinion, the removal of those piles should be a top priority. They are dangerous for both the pedestrian's and cars.
Cozulady, I agree with you about the bus stops. I have seen elderly trying to climb over snowbanks and stand in the street waiting for buses. That is an unsafe condition for everyone, young and old alike.
I also agree that it's been an unusual winter season, and has made it difficult for plowing but if it had been done correctly to begin with, our streets would be in much better condition.
I hope we get some sunnier weather and no more storms for awhile so we can get rid of the snowbanks and ice.

It's my understanding that he's been on disability and had a couple of work related accidents over the years. Maybe that's why....but I don't know. Not sure why they would want to retire someone that young. |

I do not believe you can collect both, ( I think it's a tax free disability retirement) but if anyone has any questions, you can obtain them here at the Civil Service Commission: You must be logged in to see this link. I'm under the impression that this officer was very bad off a few years ago. Being on the Police/Fire, you have more extreme circumstances than the average office worker, etc. That lifestyle takes a toll on you.
I would not doubt that people are manipulating the system with disability scams. This is tax free lifetime money, but I don't think that's the case here. That all said, I think the item should have been handled a lot differently and Chief Mazzie should have been there to explain the situation. I would have liked to have seen numbers, and maybe a little more interest, rather than yet another rubber stamp from the common council. |

You're absolutely right Dreams. If you don't have a copy of an agenda to follow along with, you've got no clue what's going on when they just waive the reading on pieces. Grand total of thirteen items on the agenda; I think that they could have spared the time and read all the pieces. They need to realize that the meeting isn't just for them; it's for the people that are watching at home too.
Cornelio seems to be still be struggling with at least some aspects of the presidency. Took a vote and then allowe discussion on the piece after the vote. He does seem to do a pretty good job of controlling the "lost souls" though. |

The meetings are never going to run smoothly until Sergio shuts that loud mouth Billy Cardello up! Sure, he tells Joe King to be quiet, but never Billy Cardello or Tony Ranieri. Those two make those meetings look like a circus. Billy is just rude, obnoxious and talks over everyone. The past two CC presidents were unable to accomplish that task. You don't see the Alderman's meeting run like that because they have class. I just never understood why these presidents allow this behavior to continue but it does not matter....single branch government is coming soon anyway. |
