Comcast sucks and we should have a choice for other cable co. in Everett. They are over priced suck for service and reliability. The 10 yr contract that was signed I think 6 yrs ago was the worst thing that Everett signed. I wish someone could do something also about this. Internet service price is outrageous.
Comcast just went up on their prices for what, I don't know I did not get anything more for my service but an increase.

I hope many people chime in on this and get the ball rolling to help fight these Comcast increases. Again Comcast you SUCK in every way a company can and I blame city officials for letting this happen.

Actually, we can have a choice of cable, and this was only brought to light when Alderman Van Campen brought up cable rates in the city, after reading a disturbing article in the Boston Globe that Everett has the highest basic cable rates. I can tell you that my Comcast bill has gone up $10.00 per month over the past year. I’m sure others have gone up to, so I’m not sure why the administration did not go and take steps to regulate it through the FCC.

Alderman Sachetta brought up a few months ago about having different choices of cable providers in the city. He was told by Colleen Mejia that the City of Everett has an inclusive 10 year contract, and we can not have competition or do anything about it.

Since then, I have spoken to Sal Sachetta and that is indeed what was said.

As for the 10 year contract (that Colleen Mejia wrote in October 2005) I was also told that January 10, 2016 is not the correct date on the contract. When David Ragucci lost the election, he never went back to city hall or signed the contract. John Hanlon signed it after being in office 4 days. Colleen never informed him of this unsigned contract, but Scott Councel did. Comcast threatened to take all the equipment that Monday and cancel everyone’s cable. Then Mayor Hanlon could only do one thing, and that was backdate the contract. It's my understanding that the contract is in effect until October 2015.

I think Melissa would have been better off not offering information on the date that the contract was "signed" trying to cover up for "someone" ....so then she chooses to lie through her teeth! Her and Matt contradict what was said by Colleen, and they now say.... it’s NOT an inclusive contract..... and no other competition is willing to come into Everett. All of a sudden....on the very same day of the BOA meeting to regulate rates..... Melissa is leaving messages for Verizon to come to Everett???

Either someone is lying or we have some real overpaid dopes that just cant get their act together.

What was on the BOA agenda was to "regulate" cable rates, not bring in new providers. Sal Sachetta was surprised by this and we are not sure why she “claims” she called Verizon that very day……since she was the one that stated Verizon does not have any money or interest to come into the city........so calling Verizon that day would serve no purpose.

So, we CAN have other cable providers like Verizon Fios....as long as Verizon (or anyone else) is willing. Note that Melissa also stated that the FCC will only regulate the Comcast rate IF there is no competition in the city. That’s another thing I think needs to be checked out, since I’m not sure if that’s the truth or not. Don’t forget, Comcast pays city employees salaries and equipment so I don't think they are in a big hurry to bring in competition.

you are so right tails on the comcast deal, you can't expect a new mayor coming in and slam it down his throat to sign the contract or else, the law dept scares me at city hall they have no clue I have heard from more than one person at city hall
