New Trash and Recycling Regulations- Summary of Changes- September 2012
I. Residential Trash
a. Each household will receive one dark blue, 64-gallon trash bin free of charge. Multi unit residential buildings (2-8 units) will receive one per unit.
b. Apartment buildings with 9 or more units may receive a dumpster equivalent to the size of the bins they would have received.
c. Large residential buildings are not required to utilize the City’s trash removal services and may opt to hire a private contractor.
d. Households that may need an additional bin can rent one for $150.00/ year.
e. All trash must go in the City-issued trash bins. Lids must be closed tightly with no trash exposed.
f. Trash that is not in the City trash bin will not be collected and may be subject to fines issued by Code Enforcement.
g. The trash bins are property of the City of Everett and must remain with properties as tenants and homeowners move.
II. Commercial Trash
a. Each business will receive one dark blue with gray lid, 64-gallon bin free of charge.
b. Businesses that may need an additional bin(s) can rent one for $200.00/year.
c. All trash must go in the City-issued trash bins.
d. Trash that is not in the City trash bin will not be collected and may be subject to fines issued by Code Enforcement.
e. Businesses are not required to utilize the City’s trash removal services and may hire a private contractor if they so choose.
f. The trash bins are property of the City of Everett and must remain with properties as business tenants move.
III. Recycling
a. Recycling will now be collected on a weekly basis rather than bi-weekly, on the same day as trash collection.
b. All other recycling procedures will remain the same.
c. Recycling bins that contain trash will not be collected.
IV. Appliances, electronics, and furniture (White Goods and Bulk Items)
a. Existing procedures regarding the disposal of large appliances, electronics and furniture will remain the same.
b. Residents and businesses must pay $15.00 per sticker for each large item they want to dispose.
V. Yard Waste
a. Existing yard waste procedures will also remain the same.
b. The City will annually release the yard waste collection dates.
c. Yard waste must be loose in waste bins or brown paper bags, separate from solid waste and recycling.

Mr Norton at city hall must love this one. Its going to force people to recycle if they only get 1 barrel. It'll keep the street a little cleaner too. No more plastic bags by the curb getting ripped apart by dogs, racoons and people looking for bottles to return. |

Heard yesterday that our trash barrels are not ready to roll out just yet, does this surprise anyone? Maybe they didn't get much of a kick back? |

according to todays paper the new trash program rolls out on Sept. 17th make sure you look for your new barrels next week so they dont' get stolen |

Let me ask. The trash program is starting on Monday, so where are our barrels? Just a fair question, since city hall is closed today. Went all the way down there this morning and no sign on the door. So how long is this going on for now, what our taxes don't pay enough? |
