Someone just told me that we are not going to be eligible to use recycle points anymore. Does anyone know if that's true, because I have thousands of points and would have liked a little more notice the city was going in a new direction.

If you didn't see the Independent yesterday, there was a small blurb that says that you should use your recycling points by the end of the year; but it didn't say why though. Transparency? Not really.

I hear that you should watch the Ward 5 Community meeting when it airs Tails. The subject of changing recycling companies is discussed in some detail (well, as in much detail as you ever get in this city) I hear.

The problem is that Recyclebank owns the recycling bins. From what I understand, the mayor mentioned at that meeting there is a possibility that the city will buy those recycling bins from them. There also was a purchasing department legal notice in the Independent yesterday for "Recycling Bins". As those notices don't contain much in the way of detail, who knows if that notice was to acquire new recycling bins or to purchase the existing ones. But either way, just where is the money going to come from to purchase any recycling bins for the entire city? It certainly isn't an item that was budgeted for in the FY'13 budget. I just don't understand how the city can considering changing course before some type of appropriation to support the change is even put on the table.

And if the city and Recyclebank can't come to an agreement on buying the existing recycling bins, think of the mess that could be created. Honestly though, I don't think Recyclebank would want them back; but the mayor may not like their price. After the mini-fiasco that the issuance of the new trash bins has been with months to prepare, I don't have a lot of faith in a scenario where it could become necessary to swap out recycle bins in a somewhat timely manner if it came to pass.

The "fun" never stops.

Didn't the Mayor sign a new contract with the current company when he negotiated the trash program? Capital had to retrofit their trucks and according to Ms. Murphy at the community info meeting on this, it was added to the existing contract. Are we going to have to buy our way out of that contract? More wasted money for the city--is there money in it for someone else?

I believe that was only for the trash trucks; not the recycling trucks. Capital already picks up both. I'd assume that even if the city got new recycling bins, they'd be compatible with the existing trucks. Then again...

Just got off the phone with RecycleBank and here is what they said:
Points remain good for 365 days before they drop off if not used. As long as there is earning activity on the website (surveys, games, etc.) your account is still good. If there is no online activity the account will be deactivated after 90 days.
So, if you want to continue to use RecycleBank you can. If not, use your points. What the city does with the account is not necessarily relevant.

Looks like another program gone viral in the city of Everett. I have mentioned many time here and on the other forum this program was never run correctly and now might be taken away. The only thing worth redeeming the points are the magazines. All the good stuff was taken off the site many years ago. So you might still call it a recycle program but when it started there were 2 purposes for the program recycle and redeem points for merchandise. This city is going in the wrong direction with the direction of the Mayor. Here we go again gonna cost all us taxpayers more money. If election day for mayor was next week I wouldn't vote for him you can bet on that.
