Everett, MA – November 26, 2012 – Everett Firefighters Local 143 will hold an informational picket tonight at City Hall from 6pm to 8pm. More than 100 firefighters from Everett and across the state are expected to converge on City Hall to support their brothers and sisters from Everett.
This picket is a result of Mayor Carlo DeMaria's total lack of respect for firefighters and the collective bargaining law. After conducting an investigation, the Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations has found probable cause to charge the city with five (5) violations of law during negotiations and more charges are expected to be issued this week. The Mayor has threatened to terminate the firefighters contract for the first time in the history of Everett.
NOTE: Broadway is Route 99 PARKING: We have two public parking lots in Everett very close to City Hall. Lot 1: Off of Broadway (RTE 99) Turn left on Church St, which is before City Hall if you are coming from the south heading north. Turn right on Church St., which is right after city hall, if you are coming from the north heading south. Then take your first left onto Devens St. The parking lot is on your left as you turn onto Devens St. This lot can also be entered from Norwood St. Across from The 8-10 Bar and Grill. Lot 2: Off of Broadway take Corey St. which is located right next to Central Fire Station 384 Broadway. After turning on Corey st follow straight through the lights all the way till the end and take a right onto Norwood St, which is a one way. The parking lot is a 100 yards on your right. You can also enter this parking lot right off of Corey st. It would be a right into the parking lot roughly 50 yards before intersection. Across from 46 Corey St. roughly. There is also some parking at Rite Aide, 405 Broadway. City Hall is located two blocks north of Rite Aide. We are asking for your support on Monday, November 26, 2012. If you can, come to Everett and stand with us to show this Mayor how united we are in this fight for our future. We will meet right in front of City Hall (Big Ugly Baby Blue Colored Building, no lie)! I look forward to seeing you on Monday evening. Take Care and Be Safe. Respectfully, Craig Hardy President IAFF Local 143 Everett Firefighters
