A friend who watched a budget meeting told me the Mayor wants to give his chief of staff an $18,000.00 raise. Did they misunderstand?
There are people in this city who don't earn that much annually!! Does Carlo really think that's reasonable?
This man has got to go............

Not to mention $34,652 in part-time salaries in the mayor's department budget with no corresponding jobs listed on the department's personnel sheets. |

You really need to take a look at the budget document justme. Links to it are posted in another thread on this site. Some of the salary increases in it are eye-openers. The chief of staff is being singled out and rightful so. But the city solicitor also put in for a similar raise; only got half of it though. And it seems the Rodriques family as a whole did quite well for themselves. And there's a couple others that did quite well too. But the majority of the departments head only asked for and received 1.5%. It looks like the library head didn't even put in for a raise but was given 1.5%. I wonder how those folks feel about the chosen ones getting such disproportionate raises? |

I'm less concerned with how the other department heads feel than how the community as a whole feels. I hope enough of them are paying attention & willing to step up & vote to replace not only the mayor but also the fools he's got in his back pocket that approve this foolishness!
When so many of us are lucky to get any raise at all it really bites to to see this. While we have to make cut backs because our raises (if we get one) aren't keeping up, seeing our tax dollars being spent so wastefully is heart breaking! |

I for one am horrified at some of these salary increases. 18,000.00 increase for the Chief of Staff. That's an additional 1,500.00 monthly.
1,500.00 x 12 is 18,000.00. Her increase alone is more than what the councilors will make in a year, and that's after THEIR salary has been doubled. She will make 101,000.00 and I believe her husband makes close to that. Just those two - husband and wife take up 200,000.00 out of the budget. Nice payoff to hold campaign signs!
They are not there for the struggling homeowner. They are in it for themselves and we will have more foreclosures.....a DISASTER Casino agreement and when traffic is quadruple of a mess over this fiasco casino.....Carlo will care less because he'll be in for 4 years and wont care who he pisses off. He'll disappear and make periodic appearances when it's convenient for him.
And if you think Colleen Mejia deserves a 9% increase I implore you to watch the last common council meeting with Jason Marcus. She looked like she was floating up to mars. |

Not $1 in cuts from the lame duck bicameral government? Extremely disappointing. Let's hope that the same won't be the case next year with the new city council. But I'm not going to hold my breath until I see what the makeup that body will be.
Though some may disagree with me, honestly, I don't actually think that there was all that much to cut other than salaries. And maybe there are some underpaid, by comparison, department heads. But with the possibility of "tight" years going forward (which has never been fully explained to us BTW), I don't think that it is prudent to raise all of these salaries so much in one fell swoop. And it just seems to me that some department heads are favored over others. Think ones that get out there and hold signs or otherwise participate in the campaign. Just my opinion. |
