I read the Independen's comments today about either Smith or Hickey wanting to continue to hold their city job if they win the State Rep's race---I am little confused by this--Has either one of them said they intend to hold both offices at the same time if they are elected State Rep ?

If either one said it I must have missed it.

THAT could become a real issue in my opinion !

why would it be an issue there is no where in the state ethics or rules that says you can't hold two offices you just can't get paid for both I think in my opinion that they should release them and let the others who worked hard in the last election be appointed

Louie,I really don't know what you are trying to say---I know it will be an issue in the election if one of them is going to keep 2 offices and the other is not.

The real point of my post was to try and find out if either one of them intends on keeping the 2 offices--do you know the answer to that question ?

Thanks !

I have not seen anything from either one stating their intentions other than what the papers say. I certainly would like to know each's position. Is the $5K pay for Council and the $7K pay for Alderman needed that badly?

If either of them kept both positions, they could only get paid for one of them. The pay isn't an issue at all.

Well it isnt only the 7k for the Alderman and the 5k for the Council but do not forget that they get full health benefits as well so the actually figure is a little bit higher, and if in fact Smith does win in November, it is my feeling that the person who has the most legitimate claim to the seat should be the second place finisher in the November 05 election and that would be Kevin McCarthy so it should be Kevin who finishes out Stat's term. Newsflash, Paul - the majority of the city council don't take the insurance, because they get their insurance through their regular employment.

Of course, you'd like to see Kevin take the seat. It's part of the continuing love affair with that crowd.

So what if he does? It's a benefit available to him BY STATE LAW, and he pays for it just like every other city employee does.
