I give the edge to Smith. That disgusting rag called the Advocate offends the sensibilities of all people. The lies and homophobic hysteria are laughable. The one about the face lift just added to the comedy.

I agree that it is pretty obvious that the Everett Advocate is no fan of Stat Smith, but you cannot argue with the garbage that has flooded our homes and P.O. Boxes from Mass Equality is a clear sign that Stat is in some way being bankrolled by the Massachusetts gay "mafia" and their poster boy Jarrett Barrios. If u notice in all the ads we have received in the last 10 days, not one piece of literature from them even states what he is running for, so it is obvious that it is boilerplate literature sent out for all of their candidates that are bought and paid for and i can tell you in my opinion it will not work. I honestly believe that Stat is a solid, hard working family man who is completely self made and wasnt handed anything, but to jump into bed with these radical leftists is gonna cost him another election. Frank Nuzzo is the man for the job and i look forward to supporting him as long as he is on Beacon Hill. PAUL D. DOBBINS

Mr. Dobbins:

You are perfectly entitled to you opinion about the group Mass Equality and Smith's connection with them, but in your post when you say that the Advocate is no fan of Smith's -- what was in Friday's paper, and what has been written about Smith in that paper over the last several weeks, didn't come from Mitchell. It comes from Fred Foresteire. Foresteire hates Smith, and Foresteire has been the behind the scenes person in Nuzzo's campaign. Football players and teachers being out yesterday delivering the Advocate door to door only reinforces that. And yet Nuzzo, who made a claim in an interview in the Independent a few weeks ago that he doesn't engage in negative campaigning, has said nothing about this vicious assault on Smith; made no public statement to disavow it.

I'm less offended by Smith's association with this group than I am with Nuzzo's affiliation with Fred Foresteire. We all have the right to support whomever we want, but just as a couple of people in these postings are insisting that Smith is hiding his affiliation -- and I'm not sure how having a piece sent out for you campaign that clearly states who paid for it is hiding -- Nuzzo is hiding his affiliation and large dollar support he is getting from the Superintendent. I wonder how long it will be before large advertising expenditures show up on the books of Shore Collaborative again. Now that there are no auditors on site at the School Department watching the store, Freddie is free once again to screw around with our tax dollars to suit his own vicious purposes.

I don't know either Stat or Hickey. Met Stat once. I have read about both and the Veterans thing stands out. Hickey being a veteran & his involvement and Connelly with the Veterans is big with me. billyboy

Happen to think Chris Keohan is a person who will excel in the (big picture) political realm, however, his father is a detriment to his credibility...will not vote for Hickey just because C. Keohan is his campaign manager..........not because Chris doesn't have what it takes, but he needs to reign in his spiteful father, because he has shown and demonstrated that he has brought the Hanlon administration to it's knees (no.....ankles).

Sorry Chris, you're a good kid, but you're father has an ax to grind which is and will bring down Hanlon's domain...along with has been (who never was...who the hell is she anyway????) Vetrano....

For those of you who are not politically savvy, Mass Equality wins elections...........better than negative ads........enough said..because the State of Massachusetts has waived voting on gay marriage until, what...2008?, that's on purpose, so the elected officials who want to remain in office don't get voted out, because by that time, it will be accepted and they won't have to answer to the traditional folks of this city (if there are any left). The social swing at that time will be in their favor and it will be a no brainer...get with the picture. Don't base your vote on the individual....see the whole picture....

I happen to like Joe, but think that Steve Smith is a better candidate. Joe will not be able to help us at the State House as an Independent, and it's not lost on me that after years of being a Democrat, he ran as an Independent to avoid a tough primary fight. It just seems chickensh** to do. I don't like the Fred connection either. I don't know much about the Keohane connection with the Hickey campaign, but it sounds like the Hanlon's are in the thick of it.

Is it true that Hickey has challenged Smith to a debate and Smith refuses to debate or is that just talk ?

Hickey challenge Smith to a debate in the newspapers. He never called Smith OR any of the media that he was hoping would host the event. He doesn't really want a debate; that's just a stunt. He just wants to be able to say that he challenged Smith to a debate. If he were serious about it, it would have been organized, with phone calls placed, location set up, etc.

Seems to me that some posters make comments without knowing the facts. Let me fill you in. The latest flyer going around the Hickey campaign highlights how many times they, and others have tried to contact Stat about this debate. At least 5 times Hickey, ECTV, and local press have tried to contact Stat by phone or mail. Joe even sent a piece of certified mail that Stat has yet to sign for. This Wednesday, Keohane was at ECTV for a scheduled debate meeting with the studios and anyone from the press interested in the debate. There sat Keohane, ECTV and the Independent. The only one missing? A representative for the Stat campaign.

Maybe next time you should post the facts instead of campaign spin with no truth to it at all.

It is pretty clear that after 2 weeks of trying to contact Stat, there will be no answer from him on the issue.
