IT IS PRETTY OBVIOUS THAT COME WEDNESDAY MORNING DEVAL PATRICK WILL BE THE GOVERNOR-ELECT OF THE COMMONWEALTH. THE QUESTION IS WHO DO WE WANT AS OUR REPRESENTATIVE FROM EVERETT IN THE GENERAL COURT. THE CHOICE IS CLEAR AND THAT CANDIDATE IS JOE HICKEY. STAT SMITH OWES MANY PEOPLE. HE OWES JARRET BARRIOS AND HE WILL VOTE AGAINST PUTTING THE GAY MARRIAGE AMENDMENT ON THE BALLOT, HE OWES MASS EQUALITY FOR THEM BANKROLLING HIS LITERATURE THAT WE HAVE BEEN FLOODED WITH FOR MONTHS. AND THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT IN-STATE TUITION FOR ILLEGALS WILL BE A REALITY, HOW WILL STAT VOTE ON THAT ONE? WE NEED A CANDIDATE WHO OWES NO ONE AND WHO WILL NOT BE A RUBBER STAMP FOR A GANGSTER LIKE SAL DIMASI AND RADICAL LIBERALS LIKE O'FLAHERTY, BARRIOS, WILKERSON, TRAVALIGNI AND THE LIKE. JOE HICKEY WINS BY UNDER 100 VOTES AND WE WILL HAVE A REP WHO PUTS THE INTERESTS OF EVERETT AHEAD OF THE SPECIAL INTERESTS AND DEVAL PATRICK'S LEFT WING AGENDA. PAUL D. DOBBINS

This is yet another distortion by the Hickey camp. Did you know that Joe Hickey is in favor of civil union with all the benefits attached to it? Yes - and he's already told people that he would VOTE AGAINST a constitutional amendment. Call the pro-marriage equality group. So please, Mr. Dobbins - check with your candidate before you write such nonsense. And while we're on the topic, Smith has never been in favor on in-state tuition or driver's licenses for illegal immigrants. Let's get this straight.
Mr. Hickey is also on record as saying he would sit with the Democrats and he would be embraced by open arms. This does not sound like a guy who is going to work independently of Speaker DiMasi. This sounds like a guy who's straddling the fence - like Joe always does. The guy is a nice guy - but he's not independent. He plays the game - and he played it with Fred Foresteire. While his kid was working for Fred, Joe Hickey toed the line with Fred, and not a squeak out of him when the audit came out, so spare me the "independent" guy argument. He was a rubber stamp for Fred as long as his kid was employed by him. Joe goes with how his bread is buttered, end of the story. |

Paul, where do you get your information? Court is correct -- Hickey supports civil unions and has told people he would not support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. He conveniently left that piece out of his interview with Augustine Parziale, though. Sounds like deliberately misleading the public to me. If that's such a big issue for you, then neither of these candidates fits your criteria.
And O'Flaherty is a radical liberal???? Do you have ANY idea what you're talking about?
You think Hickey doesn't owe people? Take a look at the people around him. He's going to owe plenty. Just because don't particularly object to his supporters doesn't mean he won't owe them.
Joe Hickey took the easy way out . . . he ran as an Independent to avoid a tough primary fight. He said it was because he'd have a better chance one on one. No kidding. Everyone has a better chance one on one. What would he do on Beacon Hill when his voice is only one in the wilderness because he threw his party overboard in favor of an easy ride? Not much for Everett, that's for sure.

Joe taking the easy way out? Anyone who volunteers for two tours of duty in Vietnam doesn't take the easy way out. Go Joe! |

I'm talking about his approach to this campaign, Fran, so let's not confuse the issue. Yes, in this particular instance, in the decision he made to switch parties for political expediency, Joe took the easy way out, which has nothing to do with his commitment to his country through his service in the military.

COURT, WHY DOES EVERYTHING ALWAYS GO BACK TO FREDDY, I HAVE BEEN AS OUTSPOKEN AS ANYONE ABOUT OUR OUT OF CONTROL SUPT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE CASE IS OVER AND EVERETT'S VERSION OF BILLY BULGER WILL CONTINUE TO STEP ALL OVER PEOPLE AND GET AWAY WITH WHATEVER HE WANTS BECAUSE OF A PUPPET SCHOOL COMMITTEE. THAT BEING SAID I BELIEVE THAT JOE HICKEY IS A MUCH BETTER CHOICE THAN STAT. STAT HAS ALIGNED HIMSELF WITH BARRIOS AND I BELIEVE THAT IF ELECTED HE WILL NOT DO THE RIGHT THING AND JUST DRINK THE KOOL AID THAT DIMASI AND THE REST OF THE OUT OF TOUCH LEADERSHIP IS POURING. I AM A LIFELONG DEMOCRAT BUT I WILL BE VOTING FOR KERRY HEALEY BECAUSE ONE PARTY RULE WILL FURTHER CRIPPLE THE MIDDLE CLASS IN THE COMMONWEALTH, LET'S SEE HOW MUCH THEY LET DEVAL GET AWAY WITH, I AM ALREADY LOOKING AT REAL ESTATE IN SOUTHERN NEW HAMPHIRE BECAUSE IT COULD GET VERY UGLY!!!!!! Paul, Hickey has already said he plans to sit with the Democratic leadership and believes they will embrace him with open arms. So there's really no difference between the two, if that's another of your criteria. And isn't it better to have someone in office who has a good working relationship with the sitting senator?
You're entitled to your opinion, but so far you haven't given any stark differences between Smith and Hickey, and the one difference you tried to show -- their stand on gay marriage -- turns out Hickey isn't all that opposed to the notion. |
