Just a quick reminder that this Thursday, January 4th at 7:00 P.M. there will be a meeting to discuss the Boston Water and Sewer Commission's proposed sludge facility on Lower Broadway. The meeting will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Charlestown (75 West School St.) directly across from Bunker Hill Community College. I hope you all can attend. If you need a ride or would like to help with the car pool please join us at the City Hall parking lot at 6:15 to drive over. Cataldo Ambulance has graciously donated two 15 passenger vans to take people over.
See you all there. Together we can stop the sludge. Let's show Boston they can keep their waste in Boston!

Will Mayor Hanlon and all the elected City Officials be there as well?
If they do not show interest then this effort will not be taken seriously by anyone.
Oh, and make sure the school superindent also shows...he's a very powerful man with the state.
His court case certainly shows that.

I have talked to many officials that have stated they will be there. I know the Mayor, many of the Alderman and Common Council have said they will be there. I am hoping that we get a large crowd to show we are against this. Getting people to meetings is no easy task, especially in Charlestown. |

You didn't mention FFF and the school committee...
If they showed it would be a very impressive show of support.
Wouldn't you agree?

It would be impressive if the Mayor stayed for more than 15 minutes.
Are we sure this meeting is taking place, given that it's Deval Patrick's inaugural bacanal (sp?) that night? |

You may be correct Citizen,
All the butt kissing politicos would much much rather be at Patrick's time.
Why discuss sludge, when they could discuss shrimp cocktail?
Everett will be screwed again.
Guaranteed.

Some of the members of the school committee have told me they will be attending as well. Yes, we have worked to have a very impressive show of support there tomorrow. Hope to see you there Emile.
Citizen...I thought they may cancel too, but they have not and seem to be ready to go ahead with the meeting. Maybe the BWSC thought they could sneak it through and people would not attend because of the inauguration. Hopefully we prove them wrong.
Look forward to seeing you all there tomorrow. Again, if anyone would like to carpool or needs a ride, we will be meeting at City Hall at 6. |

You may see me there, but you won't know me.....unfortunately, The Pup and I protect our privacy quite dearly.

Approximately 200 people from the City of Everet showed up including almost all of our City Council and Board of Alderman. Representative Smith, Senator Barrios and Mayor Hanlon all spoke extremely well about why Everett feels it should be included in the discussions about this project. Many more "Average Citizens" spoke about their concerns as well. Overall, Everett was extremely impressive with their turnout and knowledge tonight. Many times members of the crowd had to correct BWSC engineers and bosses on "facts" that were being misrepresented or not known by the so-called professionals. Also, Cataldo Ambulance needs to be thanked for donating two 15 passenger vans that transported some people over.
The host committee from Charlestown seemed to be leary of the whole idea of a dump that close to them as well, while the "spin" people from Boston Water and Sewer couldn't keep their stories straight the whole meeting.
One big note is the fact that BWSC sent over their Executive Director. For Boston to be sending over the big bosses they must really be gearing up for a fight. I hope everyone's ready. I for one will be calling all of the TV stations, newspapers, and Mayor Menino's office tomorrow morning.
I hope you all will do the same and call everyone that will listen, as well as keep plugging away on the petition (OVER 1000 SIGNATURES AND COUNTING!!!) If you need any information about the project or some objections that we have formed as a group just let me know, I can email them to anyone that asks. |

Have they scheduled another meeting? Is this already a done deal? What about putting the petition in the local stores for signatures. You can reach more people that way. I also will be making phone calls. Thanks for the update. |

Massdee...I am working on putting together a meeting in the next couple of weeks for people wishing to get active in the fight. This is definitel not a done deal. As a matter of fact, I received a call from a national environmental group today that would like to help because they think we can win.
Truth be told, we definitely need to get the petition into more stores. The Everett Chamber of Commerce has been helpful, but I need to find some volunteers to go around during the day to ask store managers when they arent busy. Right now I think we only have about 6 businesses with petitions, and I know more would do it if we could get out to them. I would be more than willing to send a printable petition out if someone will go to some of the stores around the city.
I have also left a message with some other activist groups to see if they are willing to get involved. We may be able to get more volunteers that way.
You can always reach me at (617) 892-2765 if you would like to help. |
