After the Sludge plant meeting talk I went and spoke with the engineer of the project to have him explain the piping of where this waste will be pushed out to...what part of the river...it was never presented at the meeting with all the other pretty pictures (even though the information was right there, they didn't want to interrupt me during the meeting to explain it...) the end product water waste is pumped into the Mystic River in the bay area between 28 and 99. The water waste will sit stagnant (feces included, my husband Peter who is a laborer and knows some things about catch basins and their function or not) in the river, literally! Which will pollute the Mystic River violently again! The waste cannot possibly move as quickly as it needs to into the ocean because it actually is pumped into a bay! That cannot be environmentally or politically correct. The reason they are pumping it there must be because they can't pump it any where else legally for the same cost? Something has to be done...They left Everett out and now I see why they left Somerville out. Somerville has to speak up LOUDLY! There is no way this can go through, no way. I requested a copy of the plan of the plant from the Boston planning committee. Will they deliver? Magda Aliberti

Probably not Magda,
We were promised copies and plans at the Conservation Commission meeting on Dec 8th and haven't received them. Calls go unanswered. They clearly can't get their stories straight on anything and are attempting to shove this down Everett's throats on a technicality. I hope everyone gets angry and can fight this.
One minute the trucks are covered, the next they aren't. One minute the whole facility has odor control, the next it does not. At the last meeting they said that the waste water went to the sewer system, and now they say it will go into the Bay. They have lied continually and until we can get the press on this, and I mean major press outlets, they will keep trying to drive this through.
Believe me, Environmental Justice should be a huge issue here. Think Menino will react well to seeing large groups of Everett's minority, poor, and elderly population coming together to stop this on a TV camera? The real fight starts now!
If anyone needs any information I can provide it. We have handouts and other materials already designed to educate people on the project. You can email me or call at (617) 892-2765 with anything. |

I have meetings at Tufts, East Somerville, and the Parlin Library to present what I have uncovered up to this date, meet other individuals with the same concerns, and learn more.... Mayor Menino wants only his waterfront in Boston to be nice? East Boston, Chelsea, Somerville, Everett, Charlestown, Medford will toxically get blown out of the water if this goes through. It is unconsciounable if this is built here. If you are interested in the Parlin meeting go to the sight: Eastern Middlesex Property Owners Association. There is an audience attendence limit at the Parlin.

Who are the meetings with and when are the ones that you have scheduled? I would love to work together so we don't replicate anything. No need to reinvent the wheel. I have tons of materials that I can get photocopied for you.
I am currently working on a meeting in which people from all effected areas will be invited. I am hoping to make this the first "mega" meeting that will help us get the information of everyone willing to help in one way or another. |
